Well, it would be helpful. You should at least first be familiar with the basics--things like measurements, conversions, and standard culinary terms. If you don't know any of these things, it would be awfully hard to learn. It would be like going to school for painting if you've never taken an art class before.

That would definitely be a plus. You should at least know the basics. The basics being many common sense things that a cook would know--that a 3 year old would not know.

You SHOULD know how. But I guess you could always learn there.
