I would think it would be extremely difficult. The only jobs a westerner can do are jobs which Thais are unable to do, like cooking western food, or teaching English. There are many very talented artists in Thailand, so I would doubt you can get an illustrators job.

forget it.
No company want to pay you 50.000baht a month, which is required as salary for foreigners, by the government.
Also you need work permit first, before you can get a work visa which again cost 2 million bath which have to be registered in the bank. All laws is changing in Thailand right now. Look and wait what the future brings.

Most freelance illustrators living in Bangkok are actually working for companies abroad such as in Singapore, Hong Kong etc

Hi. It's not easy as there are many experienced and talented illustrators here already - and they are going to be cheaper to employ than foreigners. Good luck though.
