I want to get a restraining order against my ex. He has not physically harmed me, but he humiliated me to my friends and family by contacting ALL of them telling them I am a prostitute. He will not stop emailing me telling me I'm a dirty prostitute, he hopes I have a miscarriage, he's stressing me out by telling me that he has my SSN and that he's going to track me wherever I go (I'll be moving out of state in a week to get away from him). I want him to stop contacting me, my family and friends and he won't. I keep telling him to leave me alone and it seems the only thing I have left to do is get a restraining order, but under the circumstances that he has not physically harmed me, yet, I don't know if I can. I live in Lakeland, FL right now and can't seem to find the right websites to get this information. I've already had a police officer to my residence over a month ago when he was calling me to harass me and an officer spoke with him and told him to stop and the calls stopped

There appears to be "verbal abuse." Although a restraining order may not protect you in this circumstance, there are local "stalking laws" that involve certain events--such as what you are mentioning. I recommend you keep every email--print everything off and keep in a folder. Document in a notebook all of the events occuring and his threat to track you via social security number. Please go to your local law enforcement station with these and let them know he is threatening you--just go right to the local police station and file a report so that there is a path of documentation. This is in case the situation does get out of control, you have some back up as to how the events manifested. You can contact your email provider and let them know what you need to do to stop the email. Basically you DO NOT have to open any of his email or answer any of his calls--you are the best combat in ignoring him. The more you react to his nonsense the more he is going to bother you. If he does approach you in any threatening manner--call the police. Good Luck and Be Strong!!!

Depending on exactly what he has done you can either file charges for Harassment or Stalking. Just a word of warning though. A Restraining Order is not an arrest warrant. If he violates it you have to go back to court and the judge punishes him for violating it. It not necessarily will guarantee that he will stay away or leave you alone. Need to go see the police and tell them what is happening and they can tell you the best course of action.

We had the same problem with my daughter and her ex. She moved in with her father and I. We also live in Florida. This is the steps we had to take.

#1. We had to file a ploice report over the harrasing phone calls.

#2. After we got the police report number we had to have our phone number changed, unlisted and unpublished. If you have have the police report number than the phone company will not charge you for the changing of the phone number.

#3. We call blocked his land line numbers from our telephone but we couldn't the cell phones.

#4. We got a restraining order against him and we haven't heard from him in a year.

It was the same situation, my daughter was expecting and her ex did not want her to have the baby. But because of all he put her through and her health problems to begin with, the baby was born 10 weeks early.

Yeah, maybe get a large dog and a restraining order.

Not sure what you can do about the other stuff. Maybe sue for liable of defamation or whatever the legal term for it is. Maybe warn him to stop and to tell everybody the truth. Or talk to a lawyer, offer the lawyer half of what you get, and sue him.

Go to the courthouse and file it there. You will go before a judge, tell your story and it will be issued. Tell her you fear your life as well as your unborn child. Make sure you are able to tell them exactly where to locate him. Be sure to call the police EVERYTIME he violates it. Make several copies. Most important, keep a journal.

If you are threatened or feel endangered, let law enforcement know. Check with your local clerk of court or district attorney for state regulations and steps to get an injunction.
