You really should be thinking of something he can enjoy over the next few months. The first weeks he will not know or enjoy any toys. he just wants to sleep.
Two good ideas would be a mobile that his parents can hang over his crib for him to look at or a nice snugly blanket they can wrap him in. Save the really complicated stuff for his first birthday.

Toys are not good for newborns, they really cannot move enough to play, Buy him a really soft and cut blanket that is pretty big, and something that will last, that way he can cover up with it at night or any other time. I loved my Baby Blanket until I was like 7, then it was so shredded that I had to through it away. I WAS SO SAD! so get him a good one that will last a while!

get him something soft like a blanket or clothes and if you have your heart set on a toy lol....go to walmart or target and look at their premies toys...a rattle is ok..but member he just came out of the womb so he is not gonna wanna play with loud objects for atleast a month or so...but still the more toys the little one collects now...when he is older he will really enjoy all those gifts, even if he couldnt play with them at first..get something for mommy too..she has been through a lot of work..

Toys are pretty much obsolete in the first months, since babies do not even realize they have control of their own bodies until about 2 mos. My kids always liked the "Pat the Bunny" book though. Great because it's interactive and turns them on to books at an early age.

If you really want to get him a toy, most hospitals let you keep a little stuffed animal in the bassinet with the baby. As for everything else, hes brand new, he will sleep, eat, and poop. He will not be able to play with a toy.

Congratulations!
We you may want to get something musical or a Teddy bear, but the baby is not old enough to play or enjoy a toy yet. Some really good gifts ideas would be some cute outfits or pajamas, t-shirts, pampers, baby wash/shampoo/lotion kit, bathing tub, etc.

Newborns can't really focus on toys yet. Consider something that would grow with him. How about a mobile for in his crib? A blanket, an outfit etc
