What you need to do is call vets in your area and ask them their rates. it is definately worth the trouble to shop around because prices can vary widely. i have a rabbit and here's what i did: i called the veterinary hospital and they said first they'd have to see him and that would cost about $100 then they'd schedule the surgery and that would be about $500. Yikes! right? so then i did a search on line for low cost pet spay/neuter and found that the animal shelter in my area has an agreement with several vets in the area that if you give the shelter a $40.00 donation they will provide you with a certificate that the vet will accept as payment in full. Many places, vets, shelters etc understand that it is worthwhile to offer decent prices in order to keep unwanted pet populations down. so don't go with the first answer you get from a vet, I "saved" $560.00 by asking around.

It generally costs more to have female cat neutered, as it is a slightly longer procedure than a male cat neuter. If you have a rare or exotic female breed, it's likely to cost even more if you have a 'mid-line' spay done. This prevents the potential difference in coat colour when it grows back.

For a male it is usually around £35 these days and £65 for a female, the latter is more expensive because the procedure is a little bit more complicated. If you live in the UK and are on means tested benefit you can get help with the Cats Protection League, they will send a voucher that will cover half the cost, but you will have to contact them about it.

Hi, I agree with the other posters who said call around your area. Prices will vary from clinic to clinic. Here in Virginia prices were around $70 for males and $100 for females. But I called the Humane Society and the local Cat Rescue group and was able to get coupons for $20 off, and if we had met certain income requirements the Human Society would have done it for free. So, my best advice is check around. And don't be afraid to say you need it done cheaper when a quote is too high.

Males cost less than females. In small town Wyoming (USA), it generally cost $80 for females and $50 for males. That was with the Smiley Animal Hospital. I didn't check with the Cross Clinic. He didn't like cats. Made him cross.
