Yes.
Both parents can have one brown eye gene and one blue eye gene themselves, but brown is dominant so they both have brown eyes.
However, their two recessive blue eye genes may link up, creating a blue eyed child.
The chances are as follows
Brown Mum gene+ brown Dad gene= brown eyedbaby
Brown Dad gene+ Brown Mum gene= brown baby
Brown Dad gene+ Blue Mum gene= brown baby
Brown Mum gene+ Blue Dad gene= brown baby
Blue Mum gene+ Blue Dad gene= blue eye baby
So, as you can see, it is much more likely to have a brown eyed baby but those two recessive blue genes could get together.

This is something I can actually remember from biology!!
brown eye gene can be BB (brown brown) or Bb (brown dominant and blue recessive)
blue eye gene can only be bb.
BB is pure brown. Bb is brown but could produce blue with the right combination.
Soooo.......
If BB mates with BB then the only combination can be BB - brown.
If BB mates with Bb then the combinations can be BB or Bb - but both these still have the dominant brown gene so can only be a brown eyed child.
However, if Bb mates with Bb (that is 2 brown eyed people with a recessive blue eye gene) then the combination could be BB or Bb or bb and that is when the blue eyed child could be produced.
Going on from this - if bb mates with bb then the only combination can be bb - so if two blue eyes parents produce a brown eyed child, then it could be a bit of a problem!!
I know this has probably been the answer many times already - but just needed to get it put in, just for my own satisfaction!!

Yes, blue eyes are caused by recessive genes, which can be carried by both parents without being expressed. If a baby receives the recessive gene from both parents then it will have blue eyes ( there is only about a 1 in 8 chance of this)but it is possible

yes, blue eye genes are recessive, that is that the brown gene takes dominance, but if both parents have a recessive blue eye gene, they would have brown eyes bit have a 1 in 4 chance of having a blue eyed baby....

Yes blue is the recessive gene therefore if you have brown eyes you could have the brown dominant gene and the blue recessive in your genetic make up if both parents have the blue recessive gene and pass it to the child the child will then have blue eyes.
Its the same with left handers myself and my hubby are both right handed but one of our children is left handed.

yes it is, the genes for blue eyes are more recessive than those for brown eyes so it would be most likely to have a child with hazel or green eyes.

Yes. Look back over both family trees. A child can inherit genes from generaions past and not just a couple of generations it can be three four or more. And remember every baby's eyes are blue when they are first born.

Yes. It means someone else inthe family tree had blue eyes. I knew someone who had the darkest brown eyes yet both his parents were blue-eyed. He was spitting image of his dad but the eye colour was a throw back to great grandparents which skipped a couple of generations and re-appeared in him.
Btw, my parents are blue-eyed and brown-eyed. Out of 5 kids only one was born with brown eyes, the rest are blue. So blue seems pretty dominant in our family regardless of the brown eyed mother and maternal grandparents.
