Anything comfortable and cheap! Most shops seem to sell bulk packs of pants/ briefs for a few quid so go with those. I've never seen boxers for 2.5 year olds but maybe I'm wrong.

My mother-in-law works at a pre school and their recommendation is for the child to wear regular underwear, not the thick stuff and not the pull-ups. That way when your child has an accident, he can feel it. It can be messy, but my son only has had 4-5 accidents in 2 months! The first few were within days and he didn't like the feeling, so he became more determined not to have anymore.

I can't speak for boys undies but my daughter is two and wears Marks and Spencer undies. they're good quality and a good comfortable fit. I would imagine the boys ones weren't too different...except in slightly more masculine colours and patterns!!!
Go for briefs tho, it'll be easier for him to master taking them down for now that confusing him with Y fronts etc...

My son is just recently potty trained and I bought him character underwear that are either briefs or boxer briefs. He actually prefers the boxer briefs. Buy what your son feels comfortable with.

I tried making it fun and got him undies that he liked. He was into Thomas the Train and Nemo, so we had those undies for him. Now he is into Harley Davidson and Cars (Disney/Pixar Cars Movie), so now we have those undies. He also likes Superman, Spiderman, Batman, and Scooby-Doo.

My boy, who's almost 3, has a batch of tighty-whitey style briefs, but they are coloured. Some have Diego on them, which he likes a lot; some of them are army-fatigue green or camouflage.
He wears pull-ups when we'll be travelling and a diaper at night.

I would think pajama pants. They are meant for when kids have accidents while sleeping but he is only recently potty trained so those would be a good idea.

I'd make sure he was thoroughly potty trained before putting underwear on him.

Strange question!!! Any boys pants will do, most shops sell them! And I agree - thongs are not recommended for small boys.
