There is a glass (I believe for white wines) that I saw Wolfgang Puck drinking from on a Food Network show that resembles a cognac sifter, however this glass is wider and a lot taller in volume than a standard cognac sifter; What is the correct name for this particular type of glass?

There are so many glasses that could match your description, made by companies such as Spieglau and Riedel. Many wine lover believe Riedel are the best glasses in existence and won;t use any other.

Both make glasses designe d for drinking a particular varietal, e.g a cabernt glass, a Chardonnay glass etc, so if you know what Wolfgang was sipping you have a headstart.

I didn't see the program you mention but it might be worth your while browsing - http://www.riedel.com and http://www.spiegelau.com/sw/relaunch/html/index_usa.html
