It really depends on the judge I guess. They can and will inform your insurance agency about it if they feel it's necessary. About three years ago I had a traffic violation myself but I'm pretty sure my insurance agency was never informed of it, most likely because it was my first violation, pled guilty, and payed the ticket and court fees right then and there at court to the judge.

You can go before the judge and request driving school and the points will not show up as long as you complete the program. My son just went through this.
