It depends on what kind of "shrooms" you're buying, and also on your location.

Around here, in Pennsylvania, there are plenty of mushroom farms (especially in southern PA, near the Maryland/PA border). They grow all kinds, and the common white mushrooms usually go for about $3 per pound. Small portabellas are usually around the same price, or perhaps .50 cents more per pound. The larger "cap" portabellas are around $5 per pound, but that's because they're more desirable, and they take longer to grow.

My vague recollection of the past tells me that the cost was very inexpensive.

I was amazed to learn that magic mushrooms are often freeze dried! Just like instant coffee, lol.
