I think that in very basic terms it means that there is room in heaven for anyone who wants to go there. A normal house is made up of many rooms but God's house is made up of many mansions, i.e. so many many times bigger. If it was already full or it was too late, Jesus would have said so. And he ascended to heaven to go and get 'rooms' ready for anyone who wants to live there in eternity.

It means that all who have the faith and follow the path to Salvation shall receive it. That heaven is not limited to a set number of individuals or that the first shall receive a better reward than the last.

Some denominations believe otherwise, that only certain individuals (sometimes 144,000) specifically Jehovah's Witnesses shall receive a place in heaven. Mormons believe some shall live in the celestial, terrestrial, or telestrial heaven.

This Scripture is taken from John 14:2. After we depart from this earthly life we are judged by our loving Heavenly Father and according to our life here on earth depends on what we inherit for the eternities. The Kingdoms are the Celestial, Terrestrial and Telestial. Those who live righteously and keep the commandments and other covenants they make are able to live with our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ in the Celestial Kingdom. Those who have not entered into these covenants lives in the Terrestrial world. Those who are wicked and have broken the commandments live in the Telestial Kingdom.

Therefore we need to live the best lives that we can and therefore receive all the many blessings that can be ours.

Do hope this helps answer your question. For further information please see www.lds.org.

Jesus was speaking to His disciples on the evening before His crucifixion and there was clearly some unease among them, as He was saying so many things which completely took them aback: He had, for example, announced that one of them was going to betray Him and He had told Peter that he was about to deny Him not just once, but three times before the night was through. He now tells them not to be troubled in their hearts, as He was going ahead of them to prepare a place for them in His Father's house (Heaven). My Bible uses the word "room" as an alternative for "mansion", but the idea is one of permanence. This is our final home and we shall remain there. And there is room for everyone who wishes to come. Together with a welcome, as He was going to prepare a place for them (and us). We can be assured that there really is plenty of space and a welcome for us because if there had been any limits as to numbers, this would clearly have been part of His teaching.

The Bible does teach that some go to heaven. Jesus Christ told his faithful apostles: “In the house of my Father there are many abodes. . . . I am going my way to prepare a place for you. Also, if I go my way and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will receive you home to myself, that where I am you also may be.”—John 14:2, 3.

Jesus’ words do not mean that all good people go to heaven or that heaven is mankind’s home. Some are taken to heaven in connection with rulership over the earth. Jehovah God knew that human governments would never successfully manage affairs on earth. Therefore, he arranged for a heavenly government, or Kingdom, that would eventually take control of the earth and transform it into the Paradise he originally purposed it to be. (Matthew 6:9, 10) Jesus would be King of God’s Kingdom. (Daniel 7:13, 14) Others would be selected from among humankind to rule with him. The Bible foretold that those taken to heaven would be “a kingdom and priests to our God” and would “rule as kings over the earth.”—Revelation 5:10.

Jesus Christ was the one who said this quote.

1) "In my Father's house" - Jesus is God's Son, so he calls God "Father". In this context, Jesus uses the phrase "Father's house" to mean "heaven".

2) "...are many mansions" - in the NIV bible, it says "In my Father's house are many rooms". Mansions or rooms in this quote refer to the rewards that are being prepared for the faithful believers in Jesus Christ.

3) "I go now to prepare a place for you" - it literally means that. In the bible we read of the story that after being crucified, Jesus was resurrected and ascended up to heaven. Preparing a place for faithful believers is part of Jesus' agenda in going back to heaven.

The sentences following this quote is also helpful: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:3 NIV)
When Jesus said this, he meant it literally. He will come back and take with him the faithful believers to receive the rewards he has prepared.

almost right, John 14:2 in my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.

I means there is plenty of room in heaven and Jesus is clearly stating that he is going to heaven (the ascension) to make it ready for his followers, who will be there one day.

when Jesus said this he was talking to his disciples it means that he is going back to heaven ( die) and if he has said there is a place for the disciples then there is so don`t doubt it
if you read it its obvious that he is speaking to the diciples not every one in general
after that he says he will recieve them where he is also
14.17
the spirit of truth whom the WORLD CAN NOT recieve because it se eth him not neither knoweth him for he dwelleth in you and shall be in you
14 .19 yet a little while and the world se eth me no more but YE SHALL see me because i live YE shall live also
do you see he`s talking to the diciples personally YE mean you like when you speak face to face
in the manuscripts that the bible was translated from where it refers to God it says the spirit the blood and the water (Father son and holy ghost was first put in the bible in the 16 th century sothe Spirit of the truth is GOD Also did you know that in the manuscripts Jesus is refered to as the Word of God not the son like when the iminent birth of christ is revealed God says I WILL SEND MY WORD meaning Prophet or spokes person

Tha Jesus is risen, and so is in heaven with the Father. An eye witness call it. He is not lying, but said that if i go, i will not leave you but come again. This verse is the continuation of his message BEFORE THE CROSS, WHILE ON EARTH TO HIS DISCIPLES.
JESUS is now in heaven as our mediator. he is making the way to the Father for us through prayer of the Holy Spirit inside us. being bornagain that is.
Anotherwords- heaven is real, and a place for you "IF" YOU BELIEVE HIM AND LIVE 4 HIM AS WELL. GODBLESS.
