Its not religion which divides people, its people only who do this(division). I think all religions are man made. Initially all religions might have been created to show all people a defined way to living peacefully. I have not heard that the God of any religion asked to divide man-kind. Almost all religion point, in one way or other, that only Love and non-voilence can make us happy and peacefull. But no one seems to be obeying this today. Right from the start of man-kind, owning more and more and controlling more and more has been a passion and this has been true for so called religious heads also. They keep dividing people b'cos they have to claim their religion to be the best. And that forces them to agitate people against other religions(may be indirectly but all do this). So much so that these days even sections of a religion are claiming to be religion itself. There are whole lot of resons for this, so called dharam gurus and all non-sense politicians are giving air to the fire. I dont think this will ever end till the greatest creation of God, the mankind, is there...........

Because they were created by humans with selfish motives and dubious intentents and they were really the fore-runners of the political parties .More than the might of the state , the inflence of religion can easily have a stronger hold on the minds of the people. The head of a state has to do something concrete to win th ealligiance of the people. But the head of a church does not have to offer anything concrete and he can have a stronger hold just by giving empty promises and fasle hopes and also by a very serious and severe threat in a non-existent , unseen and unproved after life. the head of a stte will have to use compulsion and maintain a large number of employees to collect taxes . But the head of the church gets it paid voluntarily .Thus the propounder of a religon enjoys more power and influence ovr the people of all the countries and is is the King of kings virtually. so the Chritian belief was spread by using the holy Crushade and the Islamic faith was spread by the Jhihad . Besides both the religoins are administering severe threats and reprisal if people do not embrace them . since the enlargement of the membership quarantees the establishment of an empire all over the world without any tangible responsibility or duty , naturally the certain religons created by certain men as founders with such motives vie with one another to win over a large number of people to their respective folds and in the process have necessarily to divide the people of the world . No religon created with real divine and lofty intention would adminster threats and divide people .After all the religons were created by the mortal beings and not by God .What else and better could be expected of them?

I don't think religion in itself divides people; people divide people. If they choose to believe in a religion or scripture that teaches them intolerance of others, then they have chosen to be intolerant of others. Written or spoken words can't make you do anything. If you are weak and choose to believe in intolerance of other's beliefs, you will divide on your own; it's a choice.

Because there are as many fantasies and fairy tales than there are religious people, and none of the latter will admit they are sacrificing an important part of their lives to a non-existing and unprovable fantasy.

> why religion divide the people ?

there really is not much difference in the various religious belief systems except the rituals and ceremonies. each culture and society develops the basic belief system which works best for them. one can tell the type of religion by the society and tell the type of society by the religion. a quick example is the belief system of a hunter-gatherer society would probably not work for an agriculture based society.
