Hang in there. It's not that you are trying to forget...it's that these things just remind you of him. Trying to wash him out of your mind is not going to happen. Breaking up is like a "death," and the same stages still apply, you will feel sad, angry, etc. until finally you have peace and understanding with yourself.
You can counter some of this by thinking to yourself about what are some things that you always wanted to do or explore that you never got a chance to do before. Do some soul searching, and the answers will come to you. Hang in there kiddo...the world hasn't come to end. ; )
Hope this helps

If you were with him for 7 years, it will take a while to get over him. My friend dated someone for 9 months and it took them about 3 months to get over it, so i can imagine how a break up with someone of 7 years must feel. Don't be scared by this, but it might take you a few months to get over it, and maybe a year to feel like you're ready to move on. The best thing you can do is pour yourself into other things- friends, work, going out, working out, etc. Just constantly keep your mind busy, and you will feel much better. Also, I gave my friend a suggestion- cry your heart out for a week or 2 to get it out of your system, then get up and get going!
Everyone goes through heartache, and trust me, everyone gets over it. Whenever my heart is broken, I honestly believe that I will NEVER get over it- that I'll never forget that person for my whole entire life, but guess what? I ALWAYS do, and so will you.
I wish you the best of luck! Now GET UP away from the computer, call up some friends, or go for a run or make a work out plan and start working out!

Wow, I was once in your shoes. This is what I did to forget about my ex. Everytime I had a thought about him, I forced myself to think about something else right away. If I see a shirt that I think he would like, I would quickly look away and look at something else. I tried not to be by myself too. Your friends can definitely help you forget about your ex. Just by hanging out with them and doing something fun and exciting. I got into a habit of thinking about something else quickly. Now I hardly have a thought about him. Don't be sad, okay? Some people do take a long time to recover. Best of luck to you. There are many more fish out there waiting for you.

It's like biting your nails. It takes time to stop. How much time does it take most people to quit a habit? Usually a lot longer than 3 months. I know it sucks, but everyone else is right. Maybe when you go in, you should just steer clear of that stuff. Walk a wide path around it all.

Your just going through that phase. You need not worry about that. Some day after you can find another guy and life will continue in other way.I Know its very difficult to break up.But still life would not stopped because of a single person
The more you think about that the more unhappy you become. therefore don't look or avoid them, you will be good.
Hope it works

unfortunately you can't keep yourself from finding things that remind you of him or passing by places that you went to together. 7 years is a long time to be with someone and you've made so many memories. give yourself plenty of time (surely you're tired of hearing this) and one day it won't be so painful to go to the grocery store or to the park or wherever. you will find someone to make new memories with.
keep your friends close, you need their support now more than ever, family too.

It will pass, with time.
Memories will be overwritten when you have new memories to replace them with. Everyone should be lucky enough to have someone who cares as much about their likes and dislikes.
Spend some time pampering and making yourself happy for now, it always helped me.

Get someone new, and you shall find new things to look at, that remind you of that person instead of your ex.
