I was recently in Iceland and rented a KIA Sorento -- man was that a great, economical vehicle. I drove it through 2 rivers with H2O half way up the doors, through ice storms and all sorts of terrible conditions -- the thing was unbelievable. I kept thinking the whole time "I would totally buy one of these if I didn't already love my truck"... lots of luck

Best advice is a Peugeot 306 ( or 206 if you have the money ) or Citroen Saxo up to a 1.4 petrol as these are good round town and fine for a decent length trip , as well small enough to park and big enough for the shopping , as for prices , a 96 model should set you back no more than £1000 up to 02 model shouldn't cost more than about £3000 , depending on mileage , condition , service history , engine size and spec , but shop around and you'll find there are a good few to choose from , failing that then you could go for a Renault Clio , which are similarly priced or Fiat Punto which tend to be cheaper but not as reliable , have fun looking .

Are you observing to purchase a automobile, or are you in elementary words curious? There are new hatchbacks in the market from the jap companies, equivalent to Nissan (once Datsun) Versa, Honda in good structure and Toyota Yaris. because the finest year for Datsun develop into once 1983, there are various years and various hatchbacks in between. no matter if that's a '70s Datsun you're pondering, though, styling has moved on once you concentrate on that then. The hatchbacks in the mid 70s were B210, F10, 200SX and 280Z (really a routines automobile, even with the indisputable fact that it has a hatch). seem those up and see if that helps. in the 80s, there 200SX and Z hatches - now no longer convinced about the others...

I have a phatus dodge stratus... 1998 2.0 4cyl 4 door... bought it two years ago for 2,500. Had 80,000 miles almost exactly.. great running car. It is a standard so I don't have to deal with the automatic bullshiit. Now problems I have had... Thermo stat.. repair cost... 5 $
Front Wheel bearing... repair cost 30$
Shifter cable bushing.. Repair cost... about 3 $ Though I made it up myself because you can not buy the bushing from dodge separate from the whole cable at a cost of like 200 $
But has 115,000 on her now and still runs great... good gas mileage

I didn't know there are cars driven in town by children? Nevermind :)
When looking for a reliable used car, you can never go wrong with Japanese, especially Toyota or Honda. Corolla or Civic are the best to go because when the time comes to sell it, they fetch better value too.

Toyota is the only way to go, I have had corollas for the past 10 years and they are great, very reliable and great on gas, I would go for the camry because they are a little bit bigger but I couldn't afford. right now I am driving a 97 corolla.

I've got a citreon AX its a little nippy car good on fuel, good acceleration (mines only 954cc and still pulls off quickly) you should be able to get one for about £500. Not the most sporty looking of cars tho
