Is there any difference? BIG ONES !!! Christians are followers of Jesus Christ. In the new testament, after Pentecost, thousands were converted to Christianity and it was here that they were called "Christians". Satan worked so hard to exterminate the Christians by extreme persecution by the Rroman empire. History books will shows that they were fed to the lions and tigers in the arena as people watch amused on the bleachers. Because of the persecution, the teachings of Jesus remain pure and uncontaminated by the atheistic doctrines. The more they were persecuted, the more the Christians increased in numbers.

Time for a new strategy. Attack the church from inside. About 321 AD Constantine became a Christian and Christianity became a state religion and it became fashionable to become a Christian (although in name only). To convince idol worshipers to join the church....idol worship was introduced, only this time they gave the idols christian names (Saint Peter, St Paul, etc)

Such was the insidious attack on the church. When the Roman empire fell and the power wa given to Rome (this time headed by the Pope) they continued the apostasy (meaning. . departing from the truth) and introduced even more non-christian, unbiblical teachings. They even changed the day of worship of the Christians from Sabbath (Saturday) to Sunday by the 3rd century and more Sun worshippers joined the church.

The early christians believe Jesus is the ONLY saviour.
Catholics now taught that Mary is a co-mediator.
The early christians believe ONLY GOD can forgive sins,
Catholics now taught that priests can forgive sins
The corruption was so deep during the dark ages that people were encouraged to give money to the church (Indulgence) to transfer the souls of their departed loved ones from purgatory to heaven. Phew....that blows me away....so we can bribe God or buy our way to heaven?

The real christians during these times were persecuted by the Catholic church (see any encyclopedia and look for the "inquisition"). Historians estimate that the Catholic church killed over 50 million Christians who did not follow her doctrines at this time. We can still see today (if you go on a tour) the torture chambers in the basements of Catholic churches in Mexico, Europe and South America. Of course this was predicted by Daniel in the old testament.

Thanks to Martin Luther, who has access to the Bible in the monastery that most of the Biblical truth of the Bible were unearthed.

The Cathtolic church is the Mother church. Mother? How does one become a mother...- by giving birth. So the Catholic church gave birth to the Protestant churches. As a mother - she is follwed by her daughters. While most protestant churches now clcing to salvation by faith alone, they still cling to the mother by adopting some of her teachings.

In the last days.. Revelation say.. there will be a church that will clcing only to the teaching of Christ and his apostles. This church is mentioned in Revelation as the "remnant" church.
This church is easy to identify:

1. They will teach only Bible based doctrines.
2. This church is a worldwide church (it has to be to preach this gospel into all the world)

3. They obey Jesus

4. They follow all the 10 commandments (Rev. 14:12)

5. They are proclaiming the last message to the world
Revelation 14 - The 3 angels message.

Back to the original question: Catholics are Christians too -but the Catholic church has so watered down the doctrines and compromsed the truth that even a cursory study of the Bible will reveal to a serious student how far they have wandered.

Of course, God has his people in this Church too and in the last days, the message to them (found in Revelation) to "come out of her my people" will be heeded.

All Catholics are Christians, not all Christians are Catholics. About half the Christians in the world are Catholic.

There are several differences between the beliefs of Catholics and NonCatholic Christians. These differences include:

1. The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus, who appointed Peter as the head of the Church. An unbroken line of Popes follow from Peter through to Benedict.

2. The Catholics were the ones who decided which books of the Bible were the Holy word of God at the Council of Rome in the 4th Century. The Catholic Bible has remained unchanged since then.

3. Most other Christian religions use an edited version of the Bible -- because Martin Luther decided that some of the books were not inspired by God. A few Religions that call themselves Christians -- like Mormons -- have added books to the Bible. The difference in what is considered Holy Scripture -- together with some bad translations in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible explain many of the differences in belief. The main ones follow:

4. Catholics believe that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life. The Protestant belief that she had other children and relations with Joseph follow from two mistranslations in the KJV and the fact that evidence of her continued virginity is in the books that Martin Luther got rid of.

5. Catholics believe that there are different types of sin. There is Mortal Sin -- which sends you to Hell if not forgiven/ There is Original Sin -- which is cleansed from the soul at Baptism. Finally, there is venial sin -- which is not bad enough to send you to Hell. Catholics believe in Purgatory -- a place where you go to have venial sins purged. The basis for Purgatory is in the books rejected by Luther.

6. Catholics believe in Transubstantiation -- which means that they believe that Jesus actually inhabits the communion wafer and wine -- that it is truly his flesh and blood. Most (but not all) Protestants reject the literal statement by Jesus in the Bible and think he was talking figuratively. This is a major inconsistency for those Protestants who insist that Genesis is literal.

7. Protestant religions were all founded by men who believed that the church founded by Jesus was wrong.

No--Catholics coined the phrase "Christian" a loooong time ago. The word Catholic means universal or standard, the world wide faith. This is why in Europe today you can see signs on garages that advertise catholic parts, meaning standard. Some Christian groups have let their pride run away with themselves and they feel they are the only ones who are Christians but no--- Catholics ARE Christians, and they were the first Christians.

Christians are followers of Jesus the Christ. So are Catholics Christians? Yes.

Many times when Christians are referred to being different from Catholics really the word "Christian" is substituting for the word "Protestant." For some reason, people commonly just call Protestants "Christians."

This link gives definition of Protestant:

And there are differences between Catholics and Protestants.

Here's a little chart to get you started to understand the difference in theology:

Catholicism is the original post-Christ form of Christianity (and was the only form of Christianity, for all intents and purposes, until Martin Luther invented Protestanism in the 1500s. Catholics based their Christianity on both Scripture (the bible) and oral traditions passed down through the clergy. Protestant religion was founded on the notion that Christianity should be based soley on Scripture. This seems like a fair idea until you realise the scripture they were using had already been changed so many times that to claim it is the "innerrant word of God" defies all common sense and logic.

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

All Catholics would be defined as a denomination of Christianity, but not all Christians are Catholics. They simply believe in more than Protestants, such as the intercession of saints, seven sacraments, the immaculate conception of Mary, the papacy, etc.

Of course one might be able to argue similarly about the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses.

Christian is a general term like everyone is human but what race are you? Christian means you believe and follow God. Different religions have just turned the words and teachings of God into something they want. The commandments are very simple ( and wonderful) and don't need to be altered.
Just believe sista~ believe!
God Bless.
p.s. just for the record I don't think any religion has got it as wrong as the catholics, we'll see....

Constantine converted his empire to Christianity not Roman Catholicism.. Christians are and have always been independent of Catholics. However an overlap does exist.

The Nicean creed constantly lends itself to belief in three Gods. It is an abomination before the Lord.

those of the church who come from this world having an idea of three Divine beings cannot be admitted into heaven,
since their thought wanders from one Divine being to another; and it is not allowable there to think three and say one.{1} Because in heaven everyone speaks from his thought, since speech there is the immediate product of the thought, or the thought speaking. Consequently, those in this world who have divided the Divine into three, and have adopted a different idea of each, and have not made that idea one and centered it in the Lord, cannot be received into heaven, because in heaven there is a sharing of all thoughts, and therefore if any one came thinking three and saying one, he would be at once found out and rejected. But let it be known that all those who have not separated what is true from what is good, or faith from love, accept in the other life, when they have been taught, the heavenly idea of the Lord, that He is the God of the universe. It is otherwise with those who have separated faith from life, that is, who have not lived according to the precepts of true faith (Heaven and Hell n.2).
