Your friend is right, you should use a pillow to keep your spine in line.

RE:
Is sleeping without a pillow better for your back than sleeping with a pillow?
I'm not sure cus i read it somewhere that sleeping without a pillow stretches ur back, which is good, but my friend says it's bad cus u tilt ur head back too much when u don't have a pillow, so..

Depends on how you sleep: if you sleep on your stomach - no pillow or a low pillow that is under your head and part of your chest is best. If you sleep on your back, a low pillow, and on your side, a pillow that will keep your head high enough that your neck isn't bending one way or another.
The goal is to keep your head, neck and spine pretty much in line to avoid a pulled muscle or a soar or stiff neck.

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.
I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.
I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)
Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

No. When you sleep without a pillow your neck has no support. This ceamping of you neck will cause headaches, muscle spasms and even more pain in your back. A firm mattress will give you good support for your back. Possibly use a pillow under the small of your back or, if you sleep on you side, between your knees to straighten out you back and lend support there.

why would a doctor tell parents not to give a pillow to their newborn until it reaches the age of 4-5 years old.....because laying flat helps develope a straight spine and a pillow makes one sleep with their head higher than the neck or spine.

If you are sleeping on your back, use one pillow under your head and one under your knees. If you are sleeping on your side, use one pillow under your head and one pillow between your knees.

It woudl depend on you shape size and the conditon of your back. That may be true for some and not for others. I personally am most confortable with two fluffy pillows. My husband however prefers one thin, flat pillow..

I wouldn't think sleeping without a pillow would be very good for your neck and for your spine. Your neck, because a good pillow provides support and your spine because, without a pillow, the upper vertebre would be out of alignment.
