I have an actual koran in my lap to look those verses up. You, or the website you got those verses from, take the verses completely out of context. Let me provide you with the ENTIRE verse instead of one part of it, and you'll see...
2:191 - And slay them, wherever ye catch them, And turn them out From where they have Turned you out; For tumult and oppression Are worse than slaughter; But fight them not At the Sacred Mosque, Unless they (first) FIght you there; But if they fight you, Slay them. Such is the reward Of those who suppress faith.
Strange how the verse before it says...
2:190 - Fight in the cause of Allah Those who fight you, But do not transgress limits; For Allah loveth not transgressors.
--------------------------
These verses are not about unbelievers, they are about people or forces who attack the muslim(s). It basically is giving permission to defend themselves against "oppressors", but it says to stop when the attack stops, "Allah's mercy is Oft-Forgiving"
2:192 - But if they cease, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Finally, the last verse relevant to the topic of fighting is 2:193, which point-blank provides the condition to stop conflict...
2:193 - And fight them on Until there is no more Tumult or oppression, And there prevail Justice and faith in Allah; But if they cease, Let there be no hostility Except to those Who practise oppression.
--------------------------------
I'm guessing you got those incomplete, out-of-context quotes from the koran, from some right-wing or christian website. I'm not a Muslim, but I don't hold prejudices until I know all the facts, which you have no idea about the facts. Reading the actual koran for what it is, is much better than reading incomplete quotes that are being used to support an obvious case against Islam.

Ive never read anything like that....
But 2 things - (that tie together)
1) The torah, bible, and qur'an are all books that have been around and translated by many different people... I dont believe that everything in them is true (Im Christian and dont rely 100% on the bible)
2) Though those books still direct us today, they were written by people whose purpose was to direct belivers how to participate in society while living their beliefs. No offence to ANYONE, but the world was different when Moses, Paul, and Muhhommed wrote these guides... We live in a totally different society... therefore I dont believe we can take things 100% literally...
Sorry this may be off topic

This is from the Bible (Numbers 31)
"7 They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man. 8 Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. 9 The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder. 10 They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps. 11 They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals, 12 and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho. [a]
13 Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp. 14 Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle.
15 "Have you allowed all the women to live?" he asked them. 16 "They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the LORD's people. 17 Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."
And this is from the Quran:
"8:61 But if they incline to peace, incline thou to it as well, and place thy trust in God: verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing!"

the bible, in particular the old testament, is loaded with smiting.
“That whosoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman” (2 Chronicles 15:13).
And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel” (Numbers 25:1-4)
“If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel” (Deuteronomy 22:22).
“This shall be an [sic] holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations. . . . Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people” (Exodus 30:31-33).
"And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death (Exodus 21:17)."
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)
Whenever the Tabernacle is moved, the Levites will take it down and set it up again. Anyone else who goes too near the Tabernacle will be executed.' (Numbers 1:48-51 NLT)
I will release wild animals that will kill your children and destroy your cattle, so your numbers will dwindle and your roads will be deserted. (Leviticus 26:21-22 NLT)
Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children. (Isaiah 13:15-18 NLT)
Do not spare him, but kill men and women, children and infants, oxen and sheep, camels and asses.' (1 Samuel 15:2-3 NAB)
I will fill your mountains with the dead. Your hills, your valleys, and your streams will be filled with people slaughtered by the sword. I will make you desolate forever. Your cities will never be rebuilt. Then you will know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel 35:7-9 NLT)
"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD. "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction". (Jeremiah 50:21-22 NLT)

"If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams appears among you ...and he says 'Let us follow other gods' ... that prophet or dreamer must be put to death." Deuteronomy 13:1-5
"If your very own brother or your son or daughter, or wifer you love, or your closet friend secretly entices you saying, 'Let us go and worship other gods'... do not yield to him... Show him no pity. Do not spare or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death..." Deuteronomy 13:6-9
In my personal opinion, the Qu'ran as well as the Old Testament, at best is a mixed bag, and in its worst moment is down right evil. This is why it is so important to think for oneself using the compass God has put into our hearts to guide our way on.
