I heard that dishwashing liquid is good to give my dog a bath with. is this true? and if not do you have any suggestions on what to use to give my dog a bath with because everytime I use the dog shampoo it leaves my dog smelling like a wet dog.

I would not use dishwashing liquid on any dog. This is detergent. I always use Head and Shoulders on my dogs. It is less expensive than doggy shampoos, it leaves the fur smelling clean, and it helps to moisturize. Many human products can cause severe dry skin on dogs, but dandruff shampoos are exceptionally moisturizing in comparison.

They got really good smelling dog shampoo and petsmart. it's like 8 dollars, but it's worth it. I always get the puppy kind because it smells better. And another thing is to blow dry the dog after the bath. It will keep the dog from smelling like a wet dog. i dont think i would ever use dish soap on my dog. it would make them itchy. the soap is too stonge for a dog.

I wouldn't use dish washing liquid, I would think it would dry your dogs skin,, I use a shampoo from walmart that costs about $5 and it has a baby powder smell, after shampooing and rinsing very well I blow dry and towel dry my dog, to avoid that wet dog smell, but I also use a cologne spray I got from a dog groomer that works GREAT!! Good luck and have FUN bathing your dog : )

No. Don't use dish washing soap. It'll dry out the skin too much.

You don't need dog shampoos either. They're too expensive.

Use Johnson's Baby Shampoo. It's cheap, rinses easily, doesn't dry out the dog's skin, and leaves the dog with a clean smell (at least until the next roll in the dirt).

I wouldn't use dishwashing liquid because it will be difficult to fully wash out of the dog's fur. I recommend using regular shampoo; you are not going to stop your dog from "smelling like a wet dog."

Stripping the dog's fur of its natural oils is not a good thing and will lead to irritation problems.

My vet told me to only use a non-detergent based shampoo for my dog. I believe dishwashing liquid has detergent in it.

Finding a non-detergent based shampoo for dogs is tough. I've only found it online and not in the stores (most dog shampoos at drugstores are detergent based). Maybe try Buddy Wash if you can find it.

The reason being is she said the detergent would wash off the flea medicine while a non-detergent based shampoo wouldn't.

Dishsoap will NOT kill fleas. Dog shampoo is cheap enough & specially formulated. If you have to use human shampoo get a mild baby shampoo & dilute it with water first. Better yet, get a medicated shampoo from the vet. That should help with the doggy smell. Good luck.

I would think dishwashing liquid would be a bit harsh, I used to use baby shampoo. As she got older and her skin got dry the vet prescribed a special shampoo, dishwashing liquid oh no.

The dish soap can be harsh on the skin and remove too much of your dog's natural oils. You can try some of the shampoos used for humans, they works pretty good. Or there are dog shampoos designed to remove odors.

you can use something mild like dial, try mixing some baking soda in it. It's a gentle non-toxic way of washing the dog. OR try an oatmeal based shampoo.
