Herniae can be of various types. The most common are the groin herniae, known as either inguinal or femoral hernia. They come out of different anatomical openings in the abdominal wall. Inguinal hernia is the most common type of hernia, both in males and females. Usually there is a swelling in the groin area which may be associated with pain. In males, long standing inguinal hernia may extend into the scrotum.
If you have any pain or swelling in the groin area, it is best to see your doctor who can make a correct diagnosis after an examination. Herniae are usually repaired upon diagnosis, unless there are severe mitigating additional health problems. Usually some type of a synthetic mesh (several different types are available) is used during the repair. Hernia may be repaied from an external incision or by the laparoscopic method. Either way, it is an outpatient procedure usually.
Other types of hernia include varieties of hiatal hernia which is usually associated with reflux disease, causing burning sensation in the upper part of the abdomen or esophagus.
If someone has had previous abdominal surgery, hernia can develop in the incision itself, sometimes after many years. These are called ventral abdominal wall hernias. They may develop without a previous surgery also. Umbilical hernia (belly button hernia) is also fairly common. A lot of babies are born with an umbilical hernia; most of them close spontaneously. If they persist after the age of 5 years, they are repaired surgically.
A serious complication of any type of hernia is strangulation of the bowel which is an emergent condition requiring immediate surgery. This is the reason most surgeons recommend surgical repair of a hernia upon diagnosis, barring some significant contraindication.
All types of herniae can be painful, which is the most common symptom.
Hope this is of help.

Hernia where?
It could occur on any part of your body... Sometimes they are even visible (i.e. when part of your intestine emerges from your abdominal cavity).
Hernias very often occur on places where you cannot see them. And even when they are painful most of the time, this is not a rule.
Seek doctor advice if you have doubts. An hernia can grow and the bigger it is the more complicated its treatment will be.

Hernia can be in lower abdomen or middle abdomen or in side ur scrotum. Due2 weak lining of abdo intestines go down or come out causing sharp pains. Sometimes intestines get strangulated causing pain, agony, blockage of gases & constipation. In initial stages this is curable by homoeopathy or yoga but in later stage u have2 undergo an operation. Everybody must take a medi-claim always handy as these days cost of operation is sky-rocketed due2 loot & monopoly of doctors. In India cost of operation is 10 times less than USA and quality at par. So medical tourism is increasing in India.

Well i have had 4 hernia,s and had them all fixed.I had one in my stomach,2 inthe thr right lower abdomen, and one in my right abdomen. You can lay down or stand up and push you stomach out and you can feel the bulge....They can hurt or cannot hurt depends on where they are located.....It is cause by a break in your stomach wall and the gut pushes through the break making a bulge.you don,t need to be picking up anything heavy. You should see your doctor and he can tell you.If you don,t get it fixed and you strain its possible for the hernia to come through the opening and cut itself off,and if it does it can be dangerous,so you need to take care of it.Usually people who get hernia,s have a weak stomach lining and need to be careful when picking up heavy objects..................
