I got my wife a Mazda RX8 two years ago. Now she wants a "new car", but I really can't think what would be better. (NB It must have 4 seats.) Mercs are for fat old businessmen and footballers' orange wives, BMWs are for estate agents with buckles on their shoes and too much hair gel, so don't suggest Merc or BMW.

You sound rather yummy actually. I can't imagine why she would want more than you. i send you a fairy carriage full of stardust for your thoughtfulness. However, you mustn't be horrid about footballers wives. Orange is a lovely colour.

There are a lot of new cross overs BMW X-5 it will be big enough for your growing family. And provide handling or Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 450 horsepower. VW Toureg, New Audi Suv The list can go on and on. Porsche is comming out with a four door. Maseratti has a sedan.

Guessing the only reason the RX8 isnt the ticket is because its a Mazda (not too high up on the "I have a cool car" chain) I would go With the Acura TL (four door and a go fast car) of even check out the new lines of Infiniti cars (they make more good looking cars than just the G35) both ranging mid-upper 30 g range

that's simple, your wife already got a taste of some perfomance.

now it's time to up your game and get either the

Subaru STI

or

Mitsubishi EVO 9

Sorry, but these 2 cars will blow the RX8 away in 0-60, the quarter mile, the EVO handles WAY better than the RX8 but I don't think the Suby does (not sure on the Suby). Both are 4 door cars, seats 5, spacious trunks (Suby's is bigger)

Not sure on the new STI's but the 2005 STI had claimed 300 crank horsies and 300 lbs of torque. Estimated 0-60 in about 4.6 seconds.

The EVO 9, I believe, has claimed 281 crank horsies and 286 bls of torque. Estimated 0-60 in about 4.9 seconds.

Jaguar XK8? Still look great and resale values are high. I suppose you could get a VW or Audi but a) you`ll spend more time waiting for breakdown trucks, b) you may as well hand over your life savings when service time comes round and most importantly c) if you drive it yourself people will think you`re a shirtlifter.
