I am not trying to be rude. I love all people young and old. I am just wondering because my husband's grandmother is usually very grumpy. She yells about everything big and small. I even remember my own grandma (may God bless her soul) to be sort of the same way. Were they grown up with this kind of nature, or do they eventually become like that as they age? Why does that happen?

God, do I know about this one. I live in South Florida, surrounded by miserable old people.

Here is what they are mad about;

1. Fear.
2. Slow metabolism, which causes fear.
3. Stiffness of muscles and joints.
4. Physical strength dropping constantly.

ALL OF THIS is caused by LACK OF EXERCISE! When people get old, they sit down and do nothing!

My dad did that, 23 years of sitting down in a chair. He got so weak, he could not get out of the chair.

Read about Jack LaLanne on the internet. He is 90 years old and is a bodybuilder. I found a lady on the internet, retired nurse who is 86 and is a bodybuilder. They BOTH love life.

I am 54 years old, been weightlifting, aerobics, stretching, every day - for 20 years. I am surrounded by co-workers that are as old as me and they are absolutely miserable with life. My life is great!

Exercise and you will NEVER grow old and angry, like your grandmother. Life is too LONG now days to be miserable every day.

Want to change her; get her to a gym.

I love grumpy old people. They've lived long and have stopped worrying about what people think.

They are not afraid to state what's on their mind. They become impatient easily and want things to go their way.

Try not to take it personally. Why not commit to doing something with her one afternoon a week. Take her to bingo, or the local senior center. They have lots of activities for seniors and it's a crack up watching all those grumpy old people enjoying themselves.

Or just take her out to lunch and to a movie. Remember often elderly people feel lonely because they have lost their partner or everyone around them is so busy they don't really spend time with her. You can be lonely in a room full of people.....

LOL...Getting old is actually enjoyable, I'm one, but some elderly haven't learned to laugh away things.

Do you remember what it's like with a younger sibling? For instance a 15 year old has friend over and a 10 year old butts in with immature " stupid stuff?

Well that's kind of what it's like for an old person. Some haven't learned to laugh at the younger, seemingly stupid stuff, or to be a mentor to encourage the younger one's to listen to their wisdom and just laugh at the dumb stuff.

Sometimes it takes the smile of a youngster to sit down and ask "what was it like when you were a teen.?" both parties can have fun with that. For instance my grandmother was born in 1906, man did I learn a lot of how things were before paved roads and air conditioning, pc, tv or radio. She passed away 2 years ago. We had a lot of fun. I'm working on being a non-grumpy old person.

Good question by the way

Try to imagine what you body will fill like when you get older. I know now that I get grumpy when I hurt and I'm not all that old and my body hurts. I just couldn't imagine how they must fill because they have been through allot more than we ever have. I would say they got pain in places that we don't even realize are there. I would try to ignore her when she is grumpy or aggravated. And I don't believe she was raised like that because people that are usually raised like that try to do the opposite to there family and kids. Hope I helped

I'm just wondering if your grandmother gets out much. She may need to get involved with an activity of some sort. My mom became this way after my father died, my father was an organist at a church and my mom was in the choir and a part of a small opera company, they used to do everything together. When he died my mom was slowly losing interest in her activities. Me and my sisters just didn't stop encouraging her to continue, we told her those days she least felt like going, SHE HAD TO GO, we made her go on those days and she said she felt better and thanked us, and even if she didn't, we could tell she felt better the days following. 10 yrs. later she's still in the opera, the choir, and she goes on cruises and pilgrimages with the church, she 71 and traveling the world.

As children we are fed from adults a rose-colored version of the world, when we become adults we learn most of that stuff is B S. When we are young life doesn't have too many worries and there is much party time, but that all changes with adult responsibilities. So I don't know why adults fill their kids head with the same crap they have come to dispise. How do you thing you will feel after working 60 years and your body starts to fall apart.?

Most of the old people I've met aren't like that and the ones that are grumpy are in bad shape because they never bother or bothered to take care of themselves.
