Of course you can. The best thing to do is check out your local schools and go with what fits you best. The ranking system with the nefarious "black belt" is simply a visual cue as to how much you might know in that school. It was actually only started like 30 years ago. I have STILL not achieved a black belt in any school and yet I have competed against and beaten several. Worry more about having the ability of a black belt rather than the black belt itself.

Yes, you can train. It will be good for you. Mentally and physically.
Do not get hung up on rank. It is just a means of organizing students within a school. It varies so greatly from school to school and style to style that it really lacks any meaning. Certainly, training is not about gathering rank so much as improving yourself.
Foods-yes, some systems and trainers will recommend diets and workout regiments if you so desire.
if you are considering training, you should go out and check out schools in your area. Do not look for a style. Look at the quality of the teacher and facility. Do they have insurance? Are they friendly and open to letting you explore their school and watch or try classes? What are the teachers qualifications, can you trace their lineage?
Never sign a contract and never pay for rank testing.
Good luck.

Absolutely. Most dojos offer adult-beginner classes. Whether or not you can get to black belt level depends less on your age and more on your ability and how much time you put into it.
I don't think there are special foods, just eat healthy. My boyfriend is a martial artist and he eats whatever the heck he wants.

I started taking Kung Fu when I was in Jr. High. About a year after I started, we had a man return who was in his early 50's. He had earned his Black Belt ten years before. (Early 40's.) He started studying five years before that. (Long about 35.) It's never too late.
As to special foods, really all you need to do is the same things you'd do for any other exercize program. See a doctor or nutritionist for more details.

It's never too late to start martial arts! I started when I was 19 and I'm 27 now. It might be awkward at first, but as you practice, you will get better and better. It is so worth the effort! Give it a chance!

As long as you are dedicated, you will achieve anything you want to do, and I think that it's a fantastic idea to take up a martial art. I did try to learn the art of Lau Gar Kung Fu, but I had to give up due to having a bad back.
Have fun learning!
Your sifu/sensei will tell you about any special diet that you should stick to.
Good luck!

Absolutely, I've seen people in their 40's 50's even 60's take up Martial Arts and become proficient in it, it's al about dedication.
but like spidertiger said don't look for just any discipline. find one that interests you and that'll work with you and train you in a quality setting.
also if you have any prior injuries you'll want to let the instructor(s) know about it so they can adjust your training accordingly to fit your physical needs.
while good diet, nutrition, and fluid intake is always good, there aren't any special foods or diets that you'll have to ahere to.
good luck.

There are several types

Judo
It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Go for it. Find the school you like and enjoy.
As far as foods go... eat the good ones (whole grains, fruits, vegetables) kick out the bad ones (most if not all fast foods, no pop or less pop than before, stay away from sugar foods, etc.).
Best of luck.
