One tape got jammed in machine and had to be wiggled out and since then all other tapes give just a flash of grey scramble and sound and then go on to black screen. Tapes can be forwarded and reversed

remove the top after unpluging inside there is a spinning head at an angle it has 2 or mayby 4 small heads around the edge there is probable some tape stuck in there or just clean them with some alcohol sergical spirit is good if you got nothing else scotch works make sure its dry or the tape will stick again

sounds like cleaning, buy a cleaning tape make sure its a wet one as dry ones are pretty crap, if heads are knackered its time for new machine

Fix it if you can, or buy a more recent better model from eBay. Ones in the shops are either too crap or too expensive.

your heads need cleaning. get a head cleaning tape and run it through.
