Answer # 5 is very good. Sometimes it helps to understand what an addiction is. Everybody is addicted to something, and all addictions are the same, whether it's to substances like heroin or sugar, or to behaviors like compulsive sex or eating. An addiction is a relationship, and like all relationships, it is usually mired in denial. It's only when denial starts to break down when a window of opportunity begins to open. This is an opportunity for healing. Healing is achieved when there is honesty at looking at oneself, because the addiction is a way of keeping ourselves from doing just that. The more honest we get with ourselves, the lesser the need for the addiction. At first, the honesty may get uncomfortable, for it may not jive with our "self image". A degree of courage is usually needed to get through this stage, but if successful, the rewards can be profound. The road to peace begins with a step towards that which is true. And Truth is found within.

Admitting it is the biggest hurdle. Getting help is the next step. Getting help isn't as hard as admitting it. Fact of life - If you have health insurance there seems to be help everywhere. If you have no coverage help is still available but you need to admit your problem to a trusted loved one or friend or your doctor and get their help in finding a source for recovery that is free or reduced in cost. Support groups are wonderful avenues - but without first getting through the withdrawal phase (which you really should do with trained help at your side) you may not be able to cope with a support group atmosphere. They really are helpful with the recovery phases of addiction but you need to get your system clear of whatever you are addicted to. Nicotine - you can do it on your own cold turkey or use patches, gum, lozenges, etc. Mind altering drugs you need to be safe and get professional assistance. Sex addiction you need help from professional counseling and support groups. All of the above may need medication supported recovery such as medication for underlying depression, anxiety, or other pre-existing (prior to the addiction) medical conditions. Good luck.

It all depends on what your addicted to I guess. I feel that admitting you are addicted is the place to start. Then find out if there are support groups to help you. When I wanted to conquer my addiction to drugs I went to Narcotics Anonymous. Good luck and blessed ed Be
