It is not a bad med. if it is right for you. Many people have different reactions. If you have been on this for more than 2 weeks and don't see any signs of improvement, you really should consult your doc. Most antidepressant type medicines will make you feel icky for a couple of weeks. It may take a bit longer to see signs of improvement in your well being. PLEASE do not just stop taking the meds cold turkey. This could cause serious problems. I take Paxil now and it works well for me ... but ... everyone is different. This is a question best directed to your doc. Warm wishes, and best of health to ya :)

I've been on Effexor for about 10 years, 75mg to 150mg. If I forget to take it in the morning, about 3 hours later I become extremely dizzy, and it lasts all day, even if I take a pill then. I've tried to wean off it several times, and even if I decrease the mg's, I still get very dizzy. So, I guess i'm stuck with it for now. It does help though, just not sure it's worth the side effects.

I have been on Effexor for about 5 years, and I do well on it. You must take it same time everyday, and I notice if I take it even a little late I get withdrawal symptoms. I was just upped to 325 mg. Everybody is different, tho. Good luck, and give it a little time, maybe 3-6 months, and if you feel it's not working, have your doc prescribe another.

I wouldn't live without my effexor. I have tried almost every anti-depressant and either had an allergic reaction or it was no help. I figure the withdrawls can't be that much different than my going off caffeine or nicotine. So I'm taking the risk.

I myself used to take effexor. I did have a lot of stress, anxiety and panic attacks. my psychiatrist prescrbied this medications and I was on it for a while.
All medications have side effects but when you need them you got to take them.
again it's your choice, you have to evaluate if you really need them and if you think that you could go with out them, then don't take them it saves you extra headache.
give it a try ! that's all I could say. if these medications are helpling you then continue taking them regardless of the side effects. the food we eat have side effects, and everything in excess have side effects.
Effexor may have side effects on your nervous system. it's like a stimulant and long time use could get you addicted and you can't live without them.

I was on effexor a few years ago, and I kind of weaned myself off it because of the side effects. If you miss a dose or 2, you have withdrawal, and that causes even more anxiety. I am on ativan now, and it's so much better because you only take it when you need it.

I found this drug to work well for me I never had any with drawl symptoms from it my self
Headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, altered taste, sweating, stomach upset, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, anxiety, or yawning may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Yes, it really helped me. I was suicidal before the Doctor put me on it. I'm taking 150 mg. There haven't been any side effects accept sleepiness, so I take it at night before bed.

I use to take it and it did ok for me. However the effects of one drug can vary from person to person. I do know some people who are on it and it is doing well for them. You need to take it for about 4 weeks before you will notice anything because the drug needs to build up in your system.
