Agnosticism, for the sake of providing a common definition, is different from athiesm, in that it does not say that no higher power can exist, it simply cant say how it exists, and ultimately if it does or not at all.

Agnostic means ignorant.

Agnostics are literally claiming to be ignorant so it is hard to tell what they actually believe other than in their own ignorance.

A person who does not actively believe that a Supreme Being exists is an atheist regardless what he calls himself or how ignorant he is.

Both, as well as an expression of the disinterested. It depends on the person. Religion says 'believe this' then gives you a smorgasbord of religions and sub religions with many fundamentally different opposing values, beliefs and dictates. Faced with the incongruity of a multitude of voices simultaneously expressing contradictory ‘truths’ many otherwise reasonable people shelve religion not so much in as an absence of belief in God so much as a certain belief that humans are idiots and that the actual truth is, at present, unknown. How is it really a cop out to be uncertain when any agnostic can look at a vast cross section ‘certain’ people and see that their views collide head on, again and again and again. You begin to seriously think you would profoundly arrogant and self-centred to formulate an opinion within such a climate, even if you had your own leanings you would tend to resist them.

I believe in a higher power but can't say for sure what that is, I call the power God. I wouldn't call it a cop-out, I'd call it freedom of choice. I've found too many different practises out there that seem to work for the folks who practise them...I wouldn't presume that there's only one way to live a life.
Maybe it's the opinion of someone who likes to keep an open mind, humble or not. I don't see a reason why science & religion can't go hand in hand.

i really dont think it is a cop out
infact looking at your question has made me realise that by your definition .. i am an agnostic spiritualist
that sounds weird lol
but i believe a God exists .. i couldnt tell you how or why
i dont feel we will ever have those answers .. or have answers that everyone can agree on anyway
maybe the agonstic is simply more honest than some by saying " i dont know "

Well, I'm an agnostic and I don't think for me personally it's a cop out. I just don't think anything can be proved and what is there I'll find out after death.. it will be the end or there will be something else. I'm really just not all that worried about it.

Opinion of the humble. Humility is in short supply in American society.

To me it's a cop out as the important thing about Atheism is not that you think there is no god but that you are opposed to organized religion

It's somebody telling the truth, something unheard of in Christian right circles.

I am agnostic, because I don't believe that god, or satan exists. It is no cop out, nor am I an atheist.
