My hair is natural also and what you can try to do is give yourself a deep conditioner once a week. ( put conditioner in your hair an sit under a hair dryer for 15 minutes). Also try not to wash your hair everyday either. Our (we with natural and tightly coiled hair) scalps don't produce oils as often and quickly as White/asian scalps. So there is no need to cleanse daily, weekly should be fine. And continue to use a conditioner (try KeraCare Humecto Conditioner and leave in creme conditioner which you do not wash out). Some times it can be the type of conditioner you use that's not doing the job. With your type of hair you need moisture, not oil. Look at the ingredients and avoid any product that contains petroleum or castor oil as main ingredients. Look for ingredients that list water first under the ingredients label)
Also you should look into a KeraCare Moisturizing Creme Hairdress for after washing and conditioning to protect hair from the environment and from becoming dry and too tough to comb.
KeraCare also has a Moisturizing Shampoo which is great for natural hair.

Also use a wide tooth comb for tightly coiled hair, small teeth will rip hair out and cause breakage. And replace any comb that has teeth missing.
And this might be a stretch, but if you're sleeping on a cotton pillowcase that also sucks oils out of your hair and leaves and dry and hard to comb and can also cause breakage and shedding (especially in the winter months) Look into getting a satin pillowcase to sleep on.
Hope this helps.

I have the same problem except my hair is long (up to my lumbar area) and really curly (not just kinky)...I have tried everything but conditioner works best for me. I have kind of just accepted that I will use conditioner for the rest of my life. At least having conditioner on my hair 24/7 keeps it healthy and shiny and it always smells really good!

There are many brands out there which provide leave-in conditioners, hair masks, hair serums etc. You can use those kind of products.

moisturiser... conditioner would dry a little hard, and look funny whereas moisturisers dry looking softer, but will help with the curl staying under control once your hair dries.
