Everybody needs a vacation...don't you take one too?

Why wouldn't it be okay for him to take long vacations? He's just a man, lay off. Did you read that in the bible somewhere or something ... "thou shall not take long vacations if you are a pastor"? Give the guy a break.

Absolutely. Most pastors work for less than minimum wage and put in 70-90 hours per week. They deserve very long vacations.

Not really since they have a really cushy, easy job anyway and are mostly on their own time. But I don't think it is ethical for them to scare and terrorize children and adults as they do in their sermons based on their own interpretations of what they read, or what they often make up. I remember being told the world was going to end in 1981 by a minister in a sermon--it was an undisputed fact that of course terrified me as a child hearing this.

If they have the money to do so. Why not. I know my pastor takes one week for vacation.

Absolutely NOT, they need MONTHS vacations! That is one of the professions most likely to suffer "compassion fatigue", and time away is an essential need. In order for them to effectively perform their duties to the best of their ability, they need some "down time". I suggest a minimum of 6 weeks per year, for the first decade, three months per year thereafter.

He can take as long a vacation as is convenient. He needs time off too. As long as he works it out with the church board, I don't see a problem with it.

Yes. Everyone likes to take vacations.

It depends entirely on his contract with the church. If the arrangement was that he would get 9 months off and work 3, that's the contract. If there was no contract, then it's time to write one.
