You calculate this by dividing a person's weight in kilograms (there are 2.2 lbs/kg) by the square of the person's height in meters. A BMI of 27 or greater indicates obesity.
OR, you can use the convenient website below.

height in feet divide weight in kg. BMI is a really bad why to find out how fat or fit some one is as it does not account for muscle mass or bone density. If you are looking to find how much bodyfat you have would suggest a skin fold test it is ALOT more accurate.

Most sites will do the calculation for you. (See below for some examples.)
The following equation, apparently, is how you work it out.
BMI = Kg / (m)2
BMI = Body Mass Index
Kg = Weight in kilograms
(m)2 = Height squared (Height times itself, in metres)

your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters.
Example: Height = 165 cm (1.65 m), Weight = 68 kg
Calculation: 68 ÷ (1.65)2 = 24.98
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 Normal
25.0 – 29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese
