The resistance bands are a great supplement tool and helpful for some lifts, but not comparable to free weights, since the resistance is limited. The hiearchy would be as follows:
1.) free weights
2.) machines
3.) resistance bands

one is not necessarily better than the other, they both work the muscles differently and when trying to get results, it's good to use a lot of variation in your workouts.

free weights are good because they can tone individual muscles or muscle groups. free weights are also good for compound movements such as the "clean and press," squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc.

on the other hand, resistance bands put constant tension on your muscles. some people do not give enough credit to resistance bands because they think of them as tiny little bands that don't do much. however, they come in all shapes in sizes, for example:

you can do anything with bands that you can do with free weights. in addition, bands can help your joints because the movements have a greater range of motion (just like real life!!)
here are just a few examples of what you can do with a band in addition to more traditional exercises:

(these are shoulder exercises but you can search this website for other movements as well)

my advice to you if you are looking for quick results is to incorporate free weights and bands into your routine as well as cardio and good nutrition.

free weights. without a doubt. make sure to maintain correct form when exercising and you will get better use of your muscles. look, all the resistance band wants to do is to snap back to its original position and shape, thus guiding your limbs.

free weights are better because they are constant you either lift them or you don't. resistance bands would be fine if you lifted the same each time but as you tire you lift less and less and don't even realize it.
