I just typed in 'Z's and the spell checker suggested I should change it to 'X's

Answer's are good so far, but I don't see why having an American version would change Z to X. Y? Keep going with your frustrations and comments.

That is a good one. Try it with names sometimes on Microsoft Word. It is hilarious.

Like Queen Victoria, I'm not amused.

Perplexed and annoyed, yes.

Every time I use the British spelling the thing complains, and the proposals for correction are sometimes absolutely out of this world, but the worst is the German spell checker. That gives you the most appalling and outlandish suggestions as soon a you use a compound word the thing does not recognize, like "fire bird" for "fire hazard" in the English translation.

It sure would be funny if it weren't so annoying.

that's pretty funny. at least you are being confused and amused this morning! that spell checker has suggested i spell words exactly as they are already spelled. i guess a defective checker can be lots of bad spellers' excuse for posting such dreadfully misspelled questions!

I rarely use spell check because it keeps wanting to fix things that are perfectly fine. Lots of times I can't see any similarity between the word I want and the word it suggests.

Rat are universally reviled. there have been some well-loved mice, Mickey, powerful and speedy Gonzalez, yet typically they're pests. the most well-loved squirrel, is Rocket J. (Rocky) Squirrel, who with Bullwinkle the Moose, risked existence and liberty eye-catching in risky counterintelligence paintings antagonistic to the KGB in the course of the chilly conflict. In his earnings, all squirrels are venerated.

It's even worse when you have an American keyboard and you try to type another language on it, especially one with accents. I almost come to blows with mine! And then perversely, when you are typing English, it wants to change "attached" into "attaché". At least the extra fingerwork keeps me on my toes!

Last time I typed in Wolfowitz, it suggested I replace it with Halfwits.
So I guess it gets it right sometimes.

"The" - "Th" is highlighted, do I want to change it into "The". Well, I have already written "The", but OK... so it says "Thee". Very funny. Not!
I don't trust the thing, but I figure it's better than nothing.
