Many females gain the weight because of stress. They find it stressful and gain the weight.
Many more it is the easy access to food. Everything they prepare food for their children they eat a bit. When their children are eating they will eat a meal with them so they are not alone and then eat again when their husbands come home.
When you have a child often your metabolism changes. What they used to do eating and exorcises sometimes is not longer enough to keep the weight off. It isn't always easy to notice this change because they are so preoccupied with taking care of their children. Next thing they know they have gained a lot of weight and are no longer motivated, depressed, and it snowballs from there.
There are many excuses for why a stay at home mother or even a working mother may gain weight. One just has to stay alert and make an effort.

Hey before you go off judging over weight women and accuse them of doing nothing all day, why don't you research a little of how the human body works... first off, no 2 ppl are the same... secondly some ppl gain weight just by being stress or nervous... I had an aunt who used to babysit 9 children and was constantly playing with them and then when they would leave at night she would clean up her home... sometimes she didn't find the time to eat let alone watch days of our lives.... but she was overweight.... and did you ever think that maybe someone has got a thyroid problem??? i mean come on your question is a TOTAL JOKE.... This was probably just a post to let other moms know that you run around all day... well guess what... NOBODY CARES!

I'm a sahm of 3 young children and also pregnant with my 4th. Over the years i have gained weight too, could be because i keep getting pregnant LOL. I am also running around all day chasing the kids and going from place to place plus all the house work inside and outside that has to be done! Not to mention the play dates and trips to the park and ect. I ask myself that same question everyday! My doctor once told me that after so many kids and as you get older you have a harder time keeping weight off... When i'm not pregnant and can work out hard, i use nap time for the kids as my way to get a hard workout in... warning it will make you even more tired than i'm sure you are already. But it helps to burn even more calories and tone those muscles!

I'm a stay at home mom I run around all day it's a full time job to grab my son before he trys to climb up a book shelf or jump off something, he a fast little climber right now, and he's entering those 'terrible two's' so he's very aggresive and throws lots of tantrums. But I'm not loosing weight or gaining weight either, I'm just staying the same.

I'm a stay at home mom of two- my third is coming in a few weeks now. (or sooner- hopefully sooner!!) My pregnancy weight is right on target and I assume I'll bounce back pretty quickly once the baby is born. Although now it is fall season so walks and playing in the park and stuff will be a bit harder. As far as what I DO... LOL wake up at 5 when boyfriend gets home and cook breakfast and wake kids up at about 6. Get my oldest off to school and clean up breakfast then bathe my 14 month old. Put her in her play room or maybe in the living room to watch sesame street while dad goes to bed because he's tired. I then clean up from breakfast. By this time I can do about two loads of laundry which is three floors down from me as we live in an apartment. Make lunch, serve lunch. Put 14 month old down for a nap. Find some mommy time then and clean up from lunch. Wake baby up, wake daddy up and send him back off to work at 2:30- go for a walk and play on the playground once we get big sister off the bus. Come home and make after school snack and do homework. Make supper. Clean up supper and make a trip to dad's work for his lunch break with fresh food. Come home, baby to bed, big sis bath. Big sis to bed. mommy time for about an hour and then off to bed myself. No- I have no time to gain extra pounds- LOL I know exactly what you mean!! And my life is about to get way more hectic once I add a newborn!! :) I have a friend who complains she can't do her laundry (she has a house with facilities on the main floor too) and she can't cook lunch because she's too busy. Busy with what???? She has a 14 month old and a baby as well... but I don't see why she can't keep up with things. She has gained a total of 13 lbs since becomming a sahm in Jan. I've gained a total of 25 lbs since Feb. when I found out I was pregnant, I'm 37 weeks pregnant.

You might wanna check how much you eat, and what you eat. You may be burning a thousand calories, but if you're eating 5thousand it doesn't matter how much you burn. Pre-cooked meals/HotPockets/anything you microwave outa the box is gona be realy fattening. To just goin on raw fruits and veggies snacking all day long instead of having meals. It'll boost your motabolism and help your immune system

I think that you are very rude, and you sound very judgemental.
Some people don't have high metabolism and no matter what they do have a hard time keeping their weight down.
It is none of your business what other stay at home moms do or do not do unless you see them hurting their children.
Get off your high horse.
You sh** stinks just like everyone else!

I was a STAHM for a year. I would play with my child and bring her outside for walks. I didnt gain weight but i never lost any either. I did just enough excersise to maintain. I really dont know any other STAHM that are lazy. I never got the chance to be lazy with my daughter so i dont understand where their are other mothers that are.

1000 calories is ALOT so I doubt you are burning that much. Even doing strenuous cardio exercise for an hour burns much less then 1000. You need to burn more then you take in. Take a look at your diet.
