Costa Maya refers to an area S of Cancun where its deep enough for the cruise ships to pull in / anchor. They use this stop primarily so you can visit the Mayan ruins at Chicen Itza (about 3 hrs inland by motorcoach) and to visit Tulum (ruins overlooking the ocean). Chicen Itza is fascinating - Tulum is nice but 1/2 hour there is enough and they usually combine a visit to Tulum with a trip to Xel-ha for snorkeling, walking through lagoons, picnic, etc. There is also the eco-park- Xcaret. Also very interesting. There are a lot of different shore excusion activities available besides these, including parasailing, snorkeling, scuba, etc. If you have kids, Xcaret, or Tulum/Xel-Ha would be great for them and you. Chicen Itza, is fascinating and would be great for aldults, teens, and some pre-teens, but might not be very interesting for younger children. There are also some very nice beaches that you can visit either by taxi or on a shore excursion.

S. possibly you would possibly want to arise with a diverse spelling-possibly somethinh like Mayah?

Unfortunately, I've never been there, nor have I been to Mexico. But from what I heard, Mexico is beautiful. I've never heard of that city/town, I've heard of Cancun, Apalcuano (sp?), Tijiana (sp?), stuff like that..
