I love fishing but here is the problem: We live quite a distance from any good fishing spots, there is the expense of the equipment, and renewal of the perishable parts of the equipment, the acquisition of bait of some sort, the fishing license, and all the rest.

Then you get out there, and either get no bites (dissapointment for the first timer) or you get something, and either have to clean it or throw it back, or injure it so badly it won't survive.

As you may have guessed, we DO take our daughter fishing when we are near any suitable water. We have taken her fishing no less than five times; she has yet to catch a fish, and or even get a good nibble, and is losing interest in the activity. I am tempted to pay a diver to put one on her hook, just to get her "hooked" into the activity.

It IS a great way to spend nice quality time with children, away from the plethora of electronic distractions so pervasive in our world today. It helps them learn to be patient and still, combats the distractibility that so understandably develops to some degree in all people now-a-days.

I had trouble getting them on the hook, and to be honest the fish didn't bite much when I used them. So I went back to the old bait I used to use.

i have and i'll say that it is a great way to bond with them. but when you go , make sure you dont stay out too long, they'll loose interest. and be patient with them. try to go to a place where there are lots of hungry gluegills or other small panfish.you'll catch one after another . seeing the expression of "i did it!" on there face is priceless . they can learn alot about you and themselves.

What is with this fishing/parenting kick going on? Last time I checked you aren't really supposed to talk while fishing. It scares the fish.
