I'm glad you asked this, because i was going to and itr saves me losing points. I use both and hearing what people have been saying about pantene pro-v has put me off. So for the past i'd say about 4 monthes all i have been using is Dove and i feel safe using it because i know it protects me from dry and split ends. Whereas pantene doesn't, but smells divine and makes hair feel soo soft, so i am drawn between the two. I think for me Dove wins by a smigin and i'd say carry on using pantene as i doubt what all these people are saying is true, as pantene was voted the best shampoo and conditioner on 2005 by hair magazine. Hope this helped sort out your problem :)

The Pantene line has So many formulations now that there is truly something for everyone! The one thing that many people have said about Pantene is that most of their products are a little heavy on the fragrance and some leave a bit of product buildup. However, for dry, color treated, relaxed or damaged hair, the Pantene line cannot be beat for drugstore price. If you are willing to pay a little more, the Ojon line, which is sold on sephora.com, qvc and their site, is fantastic, and has also expanded their range to include all hair types and problems (dry, thin, damaged, etc.)
Dove is a great line, but not neccesarily for very dry hair. It's great if you have fine/medium textured hair and not to many problems of issues. It has a very light feel and the products are moisturizing without leaving the hair too heavy.

My daughter is a hair dresser and she has always been told in school that Pantene is the worst you can use. It strips out the color and it ends up feeling like straw. I've personally used Dove and didn't like it much. I like the John Frieda line, or I use Paul Mitchell or Biolage. Sometimes the better priced stuff works better, but it probably just depends on your personal hair type. Sometimes you just have to try different things to finally find the one that works for you.

I have used both Pantene and Dove...my hair is thick and wavy/curly. I like both products but tend to use Dove more as it keeps my hair from frizzing and doesn't look greasy after awhile. I don't think Pantene is bad...it did weigh my hair down, frizzed on humid days and looked greasy after awhile. But I stll use it on occasion.

If you want something to strengthen your hair your should try a professional product like Nioxin or Framasi. Pantene make my head itch because it moisturizes my hair (to an extent) but it dries out my scalp and weights my hair down. I use Dove now and it makes my hair so soft, doesn't bother my scalp, and it has weightless moisturizers which do not weigh hair down.
