It depends on the situation.

I can think of many times that I had friends who were a certain way, example: I had a friend who was very pro choice. She felt it was a woman's choice to abort or not.
Although I disagreed with her, I respected her very much because she stood by her opinion and would argue it out with facts and statistics.

Then she met a guy who was pro life. A week later she told me she was pro life.

In this situation, she was just being someone she thought this guy would like better, and in that regard she wasn't being herself.

If someone is telling you to act like yourself, and it's someone you've known for awhile, they might be noticing a change in you... it's worth considering.

Love is the answer to everything. All you ever need is love,
communication and understanding. That's what I figured out so
far. If you are down, you need to get up and start doing something with
your life. Don't need to be shy, be straight forward and allways say what
you want and expect from the others.

People mimic in sound and clothing, taste, cars, money , big spenders and if you change your outlook on life and decide to be someone your not you can get caught up in a world of crap.

So it is best to just be yourself following no trend in Society changes staying away from peer pressure and you'll be fine.

you and your personalities are unique only to you...I would think if people are saying that to you...they dont think you are showing your true self...rather a carbon copy or part thereof of someone else's personality....or....some of your own personalities are being too forthright..like, over the top...just be yourself at all times..(everyone wants to be unique, dont you)?....

Be yourself means to be normal. Act naturally. For you, maybe you need to see a shrink.
