What are they afraid of, what are you afraid of? It just doesnt make sense to me that people are so opposed to something so wonderful and something that holds such an awesome promise after we die. I know for sure that I would feel much better looking forward to Heaven when otherwise I would cease to exist. I love myself enough that I want to be a part of God's kingdom forever and still exist in some form. So, I ask again, why are people so opposed to believing in some thing higher than ourselves? It seems pretty cocky to me to think that us mere humans are in control of everything.

Okay, I see that I cannot "prove" my God, but I ask what in tis world is actually "proven" ? Most people believe in science because it gives us earthly answers for our questions about how things run. But even scientists themselves say that nothing is ever going to be proven because we can never know aabout everything that goes on and why.
SIMPLE MINDED people
and sx rx...blah blah blah. Stop being to stereotypical with that phrase "thats how you people are" when you are telling me that everyone is different and believes in different things. Hypocrisy is irritating to me.

Tommy- I am not afraid of anything because I know that God has my best interests in mind. This is the power of God in me. It IS cocky for humans to think they have all of the control in this world. Don't insult my God in that way.
I do not feel like I have to believe in something. I KNOW I have to believe in something higher just so I can bear to be in this world with people like you.

Afraid. I don't fear that which I don't know if it exists. Deities are an unknown entity with no empirical proof either for or against their existence. Therefore, I am am agnostic. As far as Jesus of Nazareth, I believe him to be human but I don't believe him to be divine. I think those that came after him put him on a pedestal and here we have modern religion.
You think it's pretty cocky to think mere humans can actually control things. Well I think it's pretty cocky to give all that power to something that may not be there when the energy could be better used on your fellow human being.

It's not that people are opposed to god or Jesus.
Its more to do with so many people walking around telling others how to live, think, talk, dress, act,and so on. Some one dose not like the way you look or act so they try to change you with scare tactics like, gods going to get you if you don't dress the way i tell you. Or if you don't do what i say gods going to send you to hell!
Instead of preaching about gods gift to us all(FREE WILL). Most would rather use gods name for there own purposes and take gods gift away from you!

Whoa, wait a minute. Is it cockier to say that there's nothing out there? Or is it cockier to think that God created this whole universe specifically for man's benefit, and that this same God is going to go to the trouble of creating a Heaven for a race of people who almost certainly don't deserve it?
What am I afraid of? What are YOU afraid of? You're the one who feels like you have to believe in something. If I was afraid of anything, then wouldn't I be more compelled to believe? I'm not "opposed" to believing in God. I just don't. There's no animosity about it, as opposed to the constant animosity that ushers forth from Christians who seem to have to convince non-believers in a futile effort to keep themselves convinced.

Great question!
Please consider these tidbits:
Jews for Jesus = Vegetarians for Hamburgers
God? He or She?
Church? Christianity? Jesus? Dying?
What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?
Does Imacculate Conception have anything to do with "VIRGIN BIRTH"?
Google Imacculate Conception and learn that is NOT.
What else do you falsely believe?
Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .
If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.
Can Gods die?
If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?
Did Jesus give up Saturday for us?
No Eternal sacrifice, big deal for a day!
If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.
If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!
Life after death is like virginity after childbirth.
If the flesh of Jesus died, what was seen walking and talking on Sunday?
If you believe this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to believe it too to validate you.
Christians want everyone to convert to their non-thinking in order to be 'saved'.
Believing and not thinking is like choosing to be lost.
P.S.
[Do Christians on Yahoo! answers feel righteous when they report questions they disagree or disapprove of?

Hey that's cool, nine of pentacles I agree with you, that certain participants report abuse just because they don't like the answer or question, which in itself is abuse just consider the source, narrow minded and pompous .]

I think it's because to some it's too "magical", or "unbelievable" . There was a time when it was thought the world was flat. Religion gives us hope. But, to some people
, it's like trying to get an adult to believe in Santa Claus.

I think its funny sometimes when they say they dont believe but yet when something bad happens to there loved one they blame God and sometimes pray to him. I think they want to believe but they say since they have no proof which its there if they would open there eyes to it. Satan has blinded so many from the truth. God is real and so is Jesus.

because believing in God or Jesus or any higher being takes the power out of that persons hands and some do not like that.

hi.
i think people have different beliefs. it depends on where that particular person lives. i live in india. here, religion is a very great thing for many people. some people here [ christians ] tell others that their religion is false and that they are sinners. instantly, they feel offended and start hating them. so, if we present jesus to them by understanding and honouring their beliefs; then they will atleast listen to us.

No one thinks humans are in control of everything. to quote Stephen Roberts:
"I contend that we are both atheists, I just believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all other possible gods, then you will know why I dismiss yours."

If MORE people would believe we are in control of ourselves, then maybe more people would take responsibility for their own actions instead of writing the results off as "fate" or "god's will"
Get a grip.
