Though it is usually described as brainwashing it's more like filling someones head with so much trash that they cannot think for themsleves properly any more...the brain is so cluttered with thoughts about circular arguments & conundums to do with all this illogical dogma cluttering their heads that it becomes quite intellectually debilitating for the person afflicted.

To some it is like "uncluttering". They no longer have to worry about thinking. Now they can simply arrange any uncluttered thought in to one one simple file. All they have to do once they accept the religious doctrine is ask a clergy to explain something to them and if they are true believers they will be satisfied with the answer and have no more clutter in their mind.

I've been pondering this very question for a few days now...funny you should ask it.
Being a Christian, I am constantly trying to "disprove" Christianity. What I mean is that I honestly try to be objective in what I believe and see if it stands up to other beliefs. I do this constantly. Especially after a while on this forum...

Not many people can do that. I'm not trying to brag, but most people don't realize they're brainwashed...hence the term. I can honestly say that I believe in Christianity, not because I've been brainwashed, but because I have considered and re-considered all the other options. Nothing has stood up to scrutiny like Christianity after all my research and pondering on the subject.

I know...I haven't really answered your question yet....

But, to answer it, I would say that most of us are brainwashed. It is most likely that what you are exposed to the most will be what you believe. This is why so much money is pumped into advertising. It is scientifically proven that if you fill someone's head with enough advertising, then you will most likely buy that product.
You can apply this to just about anything.
Most people will root for their home sports team because everyone else around them does...you are brainwashed to like the home team.

Most people will think their country is the best because it's preached to them in schools, etc.

Take any subject and whatever you've been surrounded by is most likely what you'll believe.
Religion, sports, superstition, morals, vehicle preference, fashion preference, etc. Even if you are gay or not...if you are surrounded by gay people, you are more likely to accept the lifestyle than not.

Of course, these are general statements and there are always exceptions.

God knows this is true and He even said in His Word that you should surround yourself with Godly people and not sinners. Because if you surround yourself with ungodly people, you will start to act like them.
So, God is actually telling you to "brainwash" yourself with His Word. Because you are going to be affected by your surroundings one way or another...you should make your surroundings that of Godly influences and not evil ones.

So, knowing this, it is age old wisdom as to why you shouldn't let children watch certain TV programs. People instinctively know not to let children watch porn for a reason. At least that is still the common accepted belief.
It is too bad that society has been desensitized to the point where they allow children to watch Bart Simpson, CSI, and listen to R-Kelly.
All of that evil influence is having a profound advertising affect on them and is leading to many behavioral problems that Dr. Phil can't resolve.

You can tell if you're brainwashed if you refuse to listen to or consider a second opinion. I find it interesting that most evolutionists refuse to consider the possibility that it didn't happen....hmmmm.

I've never felt the need to construct a complex framework of dogma between me and God. Religion is more likely to be a barrier rather than an aid to learning about the divine.

I guess they probably say the same thing about sending our children to school, teaching them their heritage or anything that has to do with having a foundation. I am a Pagan and my ex is raising my daughter Christian, I don't agree with the Christian mainstream but why should I get upset about her providing my daughter with a foundation. when she gets older she'll have the choice of deciding what path she wants. Look at children who aren't raised with a religious foundation, you'll find a lot of them down at the State Prison.

Many people do actually.

Well...the new world order is almost here and it was predicted by the bible perfectly about 2000 years ago.

If they can't see it in front of them they are lying to themselves.

Forget religion. Just have faith in Jesus and read his word. Especially when he talks against traditions and rules and lenghty prayers and such. He doesn't like them either
