Yes, her father Abu Bakar wanted his relations with Muhammad (pbuh) to be closer so he married Aisha to Muhammad (pbuh). However she didn't leave her parents' house until she had reached puberty, meaning their relationship wasn't consummated till then.
Don't trust people who tell you Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) slept with her when she was a child.

yes, she was also engaged to someone other than the prophet before her marriage, which means that it was a tradition for girls to marry at an early age.

Mawara is correct except that they did not have any nikkah until she was older, it was only engagement at the younger age.
