My cat did this exact same thing. She had a food allergy.
Switch to something without corn, wheat, preservatives or additives. If you can't pronounce everything on the label, consider switching brands.
Look into Artemis, California Natural, Innova EVO (the best in my opinion), Wellness and Felidae.
My kitty would pull out hunks of hair when I gave her Pounce treats. She loved them, but she was allergic.
She was also allergic to fleas, you have to get Advantage or Frontline.

I hope this helps.\

Just out of curiosity, is the cat black? The vet I work for swears that black cats have more skin problems, but I don't believe her, we have a running bet going. So far it's pretty even, so please let me know. Thanks in advance.

My cat Prince is a bit of an odd cat and is happy and healthy but this does not stop her getting the odd irritation.

The other week she was scratching like mad and we did not know what the issue could be I had washed her bedding and could not see any issue with her and did not want to bother the vet. Then my brother came home scratching. He had an allergy to the BOLD washing powder so I presume Prince had the same problem.

I have however taken a few cat books from the library and looked in the charity shops and bought one or two cat book so I have some books are reference when I am confused by Prince's Behaviour

Last time I asked on Yahoo answers people made me out to be a bad owner which I am far from and It angered me.

I have also taken out Mark and Spencer's Pet Insurance as there was no excess. See we took her to the vets as she had a lump on her tail and it was stopping her eating. it was a scab in the end and cost me £39 but with Marks and Spencer pet insurance I could take her to the vet and knew I could claim without the excess gives me a bit more piece of mind.

So I suggest you do a bit of research with books and see where that takes you.

It sure does sound like a stress thing. There are things that will cause an animal stress that the rest of us may not think of.

First, are there any new animals? New person/people? Have you moved? Changed food? Changed litter? Has a new baby arrived? It could be a skin condition or an allergy to something she has come in contact with, especially something scented that maybe she has recently exposed to.

If you can't think of anything that would cause her behavior, give your vet a call. He may be able to tell you something that you can use that you already have at the house. Best of luck to you!

food allergy...one of my cats is having the same problem..the vet prescribed medication called "antirobe" and recommended "Royal Canin" food which is made for cats with extra sensitive skin and contains less additives and less protein. I live in Europe and don't know if that cat food is avaiable over there..easiest w3ay out is to mix some cooked rice (without salt or any other spices) with the cat food. Good luck!

A skin irritant of some kind, or a possible allergy. She cant tell you it hurts, so how do you know? Take her to the vet- this is not normal.

your cat has probably got fleas. buttake it to the vet and get your cat checked over. if it is fleas you can get some flea treatment for about £20 from your vet and that should work .

One of mine does this occasionally. The vet says it is a flea allergy - de-flea her and she should stop tugging out her fur and making her skin sore, poor thing.

Your cat might be bored if there is nothing organically wrong. Get a cat leash and take her for walks.

You could try putting bitter apple spray on her so she leaves her hair alone or an Elizabethean type collar so she can't reach her legs.
