Yes my friend. It is called gum recession.Your gums are reseeding, your roots are being exposed to the air and this is where the pain is coming from.It is a gum disease.
make sure you don't stop brushing.Be very gentle with your gums.Use a soft tooth brush.Go for your office cleanings. If the pain gets unbearable, there is something you dentist can do.He can put a very thin layer of bonding agent. It will be like a protecting shield. If loosing gums gets out of controll, there is a surgery, where they take some flesh from the roof of your mouth and attach it to the area where the gums are gone. What you lost won't grow back,it's gone. You just have to prevent from loosing anymore.Keep the area clean,be very gentle with you gums. That's all you can do.If you need a deep cleaning,go for it.You may be loosing some bone it that area too.Seeing a specialist will really help.Good luck.

Yo may have advanced gum disease. Too little info given for a detailed answer. Do you have notches in the teeth at the gumline? If you feel grooves or notches, then you could have something totally different called an abfraction. This is bite related and doesn't resolve itself. If abfractions are present, then a good dentist will adjust your bite to relieve the added pressure that those teeth are under. Then the notches can be filled with tooth-colored fillings. Some dentists who simply aren't educated enough to truly investigate cause/effect situations may try to tell you it is "tooth brush abrasion" meaning you brush too hard with your toothbrush in that area. Wrong!! It is impossible to scrub a tooth to the point of notching a single area. The notches are created by chipping of the teeth caused by forces on the tooth in a direction the tooth is not designed to handle. If it truly is gum disease, then proper therapies can be recommended by your dentist to stop the process and maintain good health. Gum disease also will not resolve on it's own. Bottom line, see a good dentist. If he/she says tooth brush abrasion, run out the door and find another one. Trust me. No such thing.

A raised gum line is gingivitis. This causes the dentin to be exposed which caused cavities on the fronts of your teeth (called facials) this makes your teeth sensitive to things like cold. If the cavities get deep they will hurt all the time so its a vicious cycle. Fillings can relieve the pain of facial cavities but if you let them get too bad you have to get your teeth crowned (very expensive). Sensidine toothpaste also helps.

Go to a dentist and get this checked out. Gum desease is easily treated, but if left can have serious consequences.

Sounds like "advanced" gingivitis or worse. You need to see a dentist for diagnosis and treatment. You probably just need your teeth cleaned.
