I was a practicing Christian for over 30 years and read the bible more than once.
That is how I became an atheist. And, I encourage everyone to read their bibles. The most common route for anyone to become an atheist is to actually read the bible.
One of the things that really does amuse me about Y!A's is when people who clearly know very little about the bible, religions generally, or history attempt to correct me.
That really does amuse me. Especially when they tell me that I should read the bible (something they have obviously not done).
:-)
Baptists claim that "once saved, always saved," so I can rightfully claim to be a Christian and an atheist.
Isn't that cute? A Christian atheist.
To Tiger:
You can read a comic book and have the same result if you just want to believe an imaginary friend is responsible for your life. The Bible is meaningless as evidenced by the fact the vast majority of Bible believers have never read it.
But, then again, most atheists have read it, so that should be a clue to bible believers who have never read it....
:-)

hahahahahhahahaaa.
woooooooo hoooooooooooooooooo
That's a knee slapper.
Unbeliever's and atheists know NOTHING about the bible. They read verses. period. They have ZERO knowledge. If you ever witness too one, be sure you know the meaning of verses, not just the words.
I see sooo many atheists in here quote and throw scripture around like Frisbees. hahahahhaha
They have NO idea the "meaning". I see this by the verses they use.
A Lot of Christians can get ate up quick. That's sad, but true. Quoting scripture is handy. UNDERSTANDING, the meaning....is EVERYTHING.
Good Q*.

There's a site on the Internet called "The Church of god daily bible study". May be interesting for you,and quite a good site to find answers. By the way I'm atheist but like to see out of curiosity, and helps understand some of the questions and answers on here.

If you still feel hate for any thing, than you need to pray more.
insted to get upset just because somebody know more about the Bible than you;You should be happy because more people know God's word.
If they choose to accept it or no,it depend on them, they choose to follow the way to heaven or hell.
And some words to:D.J. or T.J.(I forget his avatar's name)I don't try to correct you but,one thing is read the Bible or know the Bible and another thing is believe in the Bible and believe in God.If you don't believe in God you never gonna accept the Bible as a Holly book.

That's an interesting story. I wish you could tell us what the result of your witness was. As to this person "knowing more about the Bible", there is knowing about and "knowing". If the Lord was moving you to witness to him and he isn't a Christian it's obvious that he hasn't combined knowledge with faith and at this point in his life is dead in his trespasses. I hope that you are praying for him.
Hebrews 4:2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.

A lot of us were raised in Christianity but no longer believe or practice it. I went to church every Sunday and Sunday School too until I said enough is enough. Also, a lot of colleges teach comparative religions - I myself took four of these classes as electives - and they do teach about the bible and other religious works there too.
Teaching to be enemies? I'd say you are giving it more self-importance than it has. We merely have educated ourselves to know that christianity isn't right for us.

I would have to lay the blame on most ministers of Christendom.
They have kept their flock in bible ignorance, and teach philosophies in stead of the bible.
When you tell people the truth, it effects their pay check.
So when unbelievers read the bible they see the truth of most lies,
"once saved always saved" according to one athiest.
Faith without love is valueless (1 Cor 13:1-4)
Faith without actions / works is dead ( book of James)

The reason so many people your witnessing to know the bible is because they happen to be intelligent people who read to inform them selves about the going on around them and like to be upto par so to speak with those they find different than themselves.

Even the devil knows the bible inside and out and tried to use it against Jesus. Get used to it.
Some of us are meant to know the technical stuff and some are just meant to be simple and say I don't know...but I know he loves you. Or, I will find out for you.
But study well. Good stuff!
KEEP THE FAITH!!!
