A fine matter of balance and pressure. Probably, the heart can pump blood most efficiently with least stress where it is already. If its at the top it might be difficult for blood to flow into the heart without the aid of gravity. Sure it is still viable but your heart would tire out very quickly.

The heart has multiple functions but it a circulitory organ in the sense that it pumps blood through out the body. That alone makes sense that it is in the mid area of the body. The heart also is tied in with the lungs and the balance of breath so that makes sense too.

So that it is closer to all the vital organs of the body that it keeps functioning.
Also, because the centre of our body (torso) retains body heat better than extremeties.
The centre of the body is also less likely to receive injury than a head, foot or hand.
If the heart was any lower in the body, gravity would make it more difficult to pump blood up towards the head.

human heart is not exactly in the middle but it is in the top left corner of the chest. it is so because a human brain uses 20pc of the blood and if the heart would have been somewhere else then it would result in low efficient brain.

If it was at the top, it would be inside of our head.. not really the most central place.
Also keep in mind we evolved from animals that were not upright. Since they walked on all 4's or hunched over, the heart was pretty high up on the body.

the human heart is in the middle of our body because man has evolved in these millions of years, but the heart which is the strongest muscle is placed as man has evolved his heart to be in the middle of his body due to his habits,structure,environment and habitat.[darwin's theory]

thinking logically, v arrive at an answer...heart is placed in the centre coz it has to supply blood to all parts of the body...equally..but though it is placed not exactly centre....heart is unable to pump blood sufficiently to fewer parts...jus imagine if the heart placed on the top...how cud it really establish itz blood circulation to all parts of our body...???

actually our heart is not in middle of our body its major part is in our left mid side of chest and proteceted by strong cage of ribs and muscles;we are human beings and our body posture is in many forms ;erect; lying; supine; prone left curve right curve; even in any direction 'due to elasticity of our body it needs a powerful mechanism to supply enery and carry out waste product ;so this source is blood; and blood comes via heart so it is easy for heart to meet needs of differnt parts of our body ;at perfect time;there are many conditions in our routine life ;for exemple if we are sitting for a long time; and we suddenly stand up we feel a sudden change like rounding of our surrounding;this is because when we suden stand up the pressure of blood goes downward and less supply of blood to brain ;at result we feel this trasient feeling; according to your point of view an if heart was at top then what happend ;many of us go to postrual hypotention in some disease ;why? even our heart is in mid left side of our ;body ;due to compensitive mechnism our heart overcomes the situation due to its site of mid left location;GOd created us with best of knowlege;
