Well, just watch a class. Do the techniques work well on the overly compliant dojo goomba but not on anyone that resists or knows anything about fighting? Don't let other people tell you this works cause this this and this. Just watch and decide for yourself.
Thats one reason why I stopped taking kenpo. They always drilled us against attackers who would grab two shoulders from behind, who grabs from behind with outstretched arms and only on the shoulders? NO ONE.

It isnt the Art its the ARTIST. Hsing-I is quite effective, IF the person using it has put the time and effort into knowing the style well enough to use it...I've found it to be very effective...especially against some of the hard styles like Karate and Tae Kwan Do, but then I spent many eyars learning to use my skills in practical, combat applications... and against a variety of styles....

Watch the video clips. If you just look at their forms, then you're missing the point. There are forms and applications. Pretty good stuff.

MMA has not been used in combat. It's only proven for sport. Kung fu in its various styles have been part of Chinese warfare.

Hsing-I C'huan (also, Xingyiquan) is very simple, methodical, and basic....that's why it works.
None of their techniques are overly complicated....and each and every move have myriad amounts of applications to them.
Look at it this way, the Chinese Muslims devestated the mainland Daoist and Buddhist Chinese with this style.....I'd say that's enough for me.
And, if they pressurize the teachings enough in class....it'll be that much more useful.

How do the class train? If the class do nothing but medidate, kata, punches/kick air, and role play spar then it's virtually worthless.
If they slip gloves on and spar full contact with full resisting opponent then it can work well. Also be sure there's plently of pads and bag work involve.
