have just got 7 week old pup and for last 2 nights she has cried & barked all night on & off. I know she's scared being on her own but she's too small to let out of one room.
It's quite hard to ignore as pretty loud, also we have neihbours with small kids who are probably not too happy at noise!!
Is there a quick way or do we just have to wait.
Thinking of getting cage for her as well.

what ever you do, don't keep going to it, bear with it if you can and in three-four nights, it will stop. Get into a routine like with a child, put it to bed, give a small treat or something and turn the lights out, say goodnight and leave it, stay tough and it will settle after half hour or so hopefully. lots of praise in the morning.

if you go back it will learn that all it has to do is cry to get our attention and will do it forever.

Also, unless you ant your dog in bed with you for the rest of it's life, don't encourage this, it is not being kind, you then become it's territory and so does the bedroom, and god help anyone you may share it with! You'll find it really hard to break the habit.

Don't worry, dogs cannot be sad about what they don't know! If they don't know about warm comfy beds with their owner, then they are not crying for it!! Guilt is terrible and hard, I know, I'm not some hard nosed dog owner, but you have to be firm and train them or you will have trouble, no such thing as a bad dog usually, just bad owners!

My puppy whined for about 4 nights, for about half hour, it was hard not to go and see her, but then she just stopped, maybe a couple of small whimpers.

Now she leaps into bed, gets her treat and doesn't stir til morning.

Also the smaller area you put them in the better. Dogs have their territory and they have to guard this, if they are left alone in a big space they get stressed as they have to defend the whole lot, smaller spaces, less to guard, more relaxing and aids the settling process, trust me, this is well practised and works too!

Good luck, and trust me, just stick with it!!

what is it with all the thumbs down for anyone who doesn't say treat it like a baby, put it in a romper suit and give it your bed? For heavens sake, dogs are kind, lovely animals that need to be loved but also disciplined so they know where they stand, like children, yes give them some comfort, but if your teenager played loud music all night, you'd do something to make them stop, and it wouldn't be put them in bed with you!

Puppy Crying At Night

2016-11-01 07:42:48 · answer #3 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Get a cage it is the only way. We have just come out of the back end of this period, I know it is distressing but it will not last long.
1st Get a Cage
2nd Wear a T Shirt all day and put it in the cage at night with the puppy
3rd Music on softly
4th DO NOT COMFORT OR GO TO THE PUPPY
5th Favourite toy in with the puppy.

It takes between 3 to 7 days.

Follow the instructiions on the cage never use it for punishment only as a safe resting place. When the puppy goes into it praise it and never take it out of the cage it is the puppys space.

Enjoy we are in wee 4 (Puppy is 13 weeks and we are loving it....)

some pups just cannot be cage trained. Being taken away from mummy and sibling's must be really traumatic. I have always allowed my dogs have a bed in my room where you can just put your arm out and reassure them. Puppy trainer pads on the landing will be a good toilet area until old enough to go through the night. Lots of love and reassurance makes for a well adjusted adult dog, good luck

I have put quiet soothing music on low, the heating on and a blanket/jumper that smells of you with them. I have done this with all of mine and it has worked.

The puppy will be afraid for a few nights but will settle, keep a small night light plugged in as well....the warmth will help (not too hot though).

I am sure that the neighbours will understand if you speak to them and explain the situation.

As for a cage, they work - especially if you put their toys in at night and when you are out, and again a blanket or something that has your scent on it.

Good luck

I tried the clock, hot water bottle, radio etc. and none of that worked for us, it just took some sleepless nights for me, the couch, the puppy & the tv, but years later it was worth it. I'm still alive & the dog has become a part of the family.

You might can borrow a puppy from a neighbor or family member to lay with it at night, our second puppy never cried at night because the older puppy/dog we had was with it at night.

Hi, my puppy did the same thing and we gave him a teddy bear and a clock that ticks and they tend to settle really well, it was winter here in Australia so we gave him a warm hot water bottle and he was really comfy... let him know you are around so he doesn't feel like he is alone and lots of play during the day to tire him out.. good luck and hope you have as much fun with your puppy that we did.

Awwwww. She misses her mum and thinks she's been left behind. She doesn't know you are upstairs.
She needs a nice fluffy blanket to snuggle into, and wrap a warm (bloodheat, not hot) hotwater bottle and tuck it underneath, so when she does get sleepy she'll think its mum.
Give her lots of cuddles (as well as play) and let her sleep on your lap if you have a nap at the weekend, that way she will feel more part of the family.
We had ours in a basket in the bedroom, but I know that is frowned upon. I couldn't have asked for a more loyal companion.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/xPkIr

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.
