My dog has long hair and I have it trimmed maybe twice or thrice a year. Lately he's been itching a lot as well.

That's not gonna happen. The best thing you can do is to brush him regularly. Dog's generally shed twice a year. Brushing them daily will keep the hair from coming out all over the house. Also I would try oatmeal shampoo for the itching. Your dog may be suffering from skin allergies, mine does.If I bathe her with oatmeal shampoo she seems to do better. The shampoo actually moisturizes and nourishes the skin, leaving it less dry and irritated.

Long hair dogs need daily brushing. That should help reduce the amount of hair around the house. By the way, there is a book out there that can show you how to turn your dogs hair into wool and then you can knit a sweater from it - seriously!

As for the itching, having such short hair maybe more irritating for your breed of dog. Best to ask your vet.

You cant stop a dog from shedding. Its something they do naturally and will continue to do for the rest of their life. The only thing you can do is brush your dog regularly, and find more efficient ways of picking up dog hair!

I have a husky and i have to brush him on an almost daily basis and he still sheds alot espically this time of year ..he will shed less of course in the winter but, still sheds all year around. Baths help we take him and get him groomed now and it stoped his itching and helped alot with the shedding too they put flea dip on him also the cost here i believe was about 35. dollars.

dogs typically shed heavily twice a year -- once in fall, once in spring. its so they put on a winter coat and take it off.
