it is now recognised that there have long been over estimations about how much sleep all people need each day..

however from preteen to adulthood young people seem to need a bit more sleep.... I would say that less than six hours a night is unhealthy... unless like my teens they get six hours a night and then on weekends have big sleeps....

usually 8 hours is recommended but it is not unusal to sleep more or less....

the best way to judge if any person is getting enough sleep is to see how they are functioning in the early to mid afternoon.... and are they still feeling very tired when they get up om the mornings...

some ways to get a young person to sleep a little more is to help them to see the effects lack of sleep has on them...

Sundays we always had a deal that none of us would wake anyone else up so that those who needed a catch up could have it.. it worked for us and was less fussy than trying to nah teens into going to bed earlier...

if they are going to bed at 10pm and waking up at 6am then they are getting 8 hours.....

dont make sleep a battle ground..

Try to be optimistic when your mom calls you a screwup say not for long. Looking on the Internet will not help you need to sort through the small things then start towards the bug things and if you don't have anyone to talk to then get someone get in charge and stop thinking these thoughts death won't solve anything just start watching comedy's or funny shows that keep clear of death and violence

About 9 hours is enough sleep for a 13 year old. Most kids of this age don't give their bodies enough rest, and their school work and extra curricular activites suffer for it. In order to give the body time to recover from the day, encourage that 9 hours a night.

While I don't have an exact answer, teens do need more sleep because of puberty and the growth process.

minimum of 9 hours a day. only then ur mind will charge u for a fresh new day, else u will be sleepy the whole day. these sleeping cycles are important, if not properly maintained now in this age of urs... u r 20's and 30's will definitely be damaged wit insomnia. sleep well.
