When my cat MORGAN died I was devastated, I loved that cat so much. He was a really special friend.
I buried him on our property and made him a beautiful bush rock garden with all the plants he used to love rolling around on. I mounted a brass plaque with his name onto a huge bush rock.
It's a really nice spot under a lovely old Blood-wood tree. I go down there and sit and talk with him. I feel better every time cause I know he's listening.

Well in a spand of 1 year I had 3 of my cats die and my dog. I cried a lot and then I came to terms with the fact that they were all really old and had been suffering for a little while and they are probably not hurting anymore. I also started to remember all the good times I had with them and I don't think we ever get over it it just becomes easier to deal with because once and awhile a go through my photo albums and stumble across one of there pics and catch myself crying. Anyone that has never owned a pet doesn't understand that it is just like losing a member of the family.

Terrible. I freaked out. I had a beautiful 10 years old German Shepherd! She ended up very rapidly with cancer of the jaw and she went down hill fast. We had two vets check her out but by that time there was nothing we could do. So we gave her the few remaining months she had left the best time ever and loved her like we always did of course. I took it hard. One of my brothers got me a dog after her death maybe a month later im not sure. I told him i didn't want another dog and this is a beautiful husky named Loki. Well, at first i didn't have much to do with him then somehow the dog got attached to me and kept following me around. So to make a long story short i ended up finding out his history he was abused the first eleven months (that's his age when i got him) of his life and he had issues too. So we both kind of mended and found each other and we are still together and best friends. He is now 3 and is my dog. I love him and though he will of course never replace Cassie he now has a special place in my heart and has helped me so much to get through this and i guess i helped him cause hes a great dog now.

When our 16 year old cat died in March I cried pretty much for three days. Then, on the third day, I was crying and I felt this wave of love surround me. I'm sure it was her trying to comfort me. It was a hard time because we didn't know when we took her to the vet that she wouldn't be coming home.
Our other 16 year old died just this month. I cried for a few hours and then felt better. She had gone in her sleep, very peacefully, and I think that made it better. She came to visit me too a few days later. I was sitting in front of the computer and I heard her little noise she made which meant I love you.

Our cat was hit by a car. First I screamed and got hysterical. Then we both sat with her and petted her and cried our eyes out. Then we buried her which was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. We put her blanket and pillow and toys in with her. We made a nice memorial for her. i planted mini rose bushes and we got a little stone memeorial and we put a little fence all around it. She is missed every day. My boyfriend had a very hard time as Lucky was his first pet as an adult. It was very hard to see his pain and know there was nothing I could do.

Yeah I was totally distraught when my dogs died - both in the one year. All loss requires a grieving process, the rate at which people go through these steps is different for everyone. It totally hurt me to think that some people think "meh it's only a cat/dog" but their your friend for 10+ years a lot of the time it's only natural to be upset.

I crid, but then I thought that he was in a better place and knew how happy he was at that moment which made me feel better, and when I was ready I went and got a new cat, but not so that I would forget about the other one, just so that I can remain happy and I am sure that my cat that died would not mind at all....

hard to believe i quess, but there still are a few of us out here that still have some compassion for animals. while i have to admit my compassion for my fellow man is dimishing rapidly. my 13 year old dog just died and the last three weeks have been so depressing. this dog did everything with me and my son. he loved to ride on our boat and he slept with me most of the time. the house is so lonely not having him there. most of my family and none of my so called friends could care less so i am having to deal with this grief all alone. my sympathies go out to to. losing a beloved pet is harder than losing a relative for most of us. after all our pets dont usually have alterial motives or do us wrong. very few if any of our relatives can ever honestly say that!!!!!!!!!!!god bless
