congrats! i noticed your interest before on here.one suggestion would be to start by loving what Allah loves and disliking what He dislikes.so study ,study hard.they will try to get you to turn back on your heels.so you need to know how to defeat all who wish to debate.no thing works better for greatfulness than the tahajjud prayer.it is a means to get close to Him.may Allah make it easy for you.amin.

:D I'm so happy for you. It's always difficult when you do something for the first time just be patient. Also "sohoor", which is the meal you have before the dawn and the dawn prayer, is very important, eat things that will make you full and less thirsty for as long as possible, some eat beans and yogurt. (beans with tomato, lemon, tahina, oil, salt. don't eat anything sweet it will only make you hungry soon) and drink like a camel when finds water in the desert!
- thekrollah (to mention and remember Allah) is one way of being grateful to Allah.
you can use the time in the bus or the subway or any free time to just say :"sobhanak allahomma wa behamdek" praising god (god be exalted and praised by being thankful)or "al hamdu lel lah" means thank Allah
may not sound very powerful to you but you will be forgiven all the sins youv done if you say "sobhanak allahomma wa behamdek" a hundred times, even if u had many sins.

- be close to your relatives. if you can't visit them more often call them.

- helping the unprivilged in one way or another: you can help a blind student go to school, or give away money to the poor

- do extra prayers: two rakaa (same way u do the dawn prayer) only intend it to be and extra prayer (you can do that before the dawn prayer, it's one of the best extra prayers plus the watr ( which is one rakaa after the night prayer)

-reading Quran you can begin with a few "ayat" like surat al kawthar or annasr for example these are the shortest suwar in Quran. each letter gives you at least 10 credits in heaven and Allah multiplies this for whomever he wants.

I know this is too much. not many people really do that. you can chose the one you find easiest and stick with it for a while.

I'l be really glad to tell you details of any of these things. I'm just so excited and happy for you.

Congratulations on becoming a new Muslim :)

Fasting gets easier as your body adjusts to it, it may take some time as you haven't done it before, I'm guessing? Ramadhan, above all other months, is an amazing time to be a Muslim. InshAllah, you'll be fine!

How to be grateful to Allah? The list in endless.. but praying is an important part of being a Muslim. Saying 'alhamdulillah' is a good habit.

Good luck :)

Salaam. To make fasting easier, try eating a wholesome sahur (early morning before dawn meal) and complement it with a hot drink i.e. coffee or tea.

A good choice would be some bread with soup and protein complemented with fresh veg/fruits. If you can, avoid filling up with cold drinks because it'll make you weaker throughout the day.

However, do not worry about feeling tired and hungry because this is the reson for fasting anyway, which is to make you EXPERIENCE how the poor actually live their life daily - this will induce compassion in you to care for them and make you become grateful of bounties in your life even more.

Congratulations on your feat, i must say its not easy. Feel free to email me should you want to talk more about it. All the best :)

Mashallah..... I converted almost two years ago and the best advice i can give is to be aware of the fact that your first year will be the hardest.... for a lot of converts.... the people that we meet in the beginning of our Islam are very moderate Muslims or Muslims who dont practice... this is b/ their lives are more likely to relate to our lives as non-Muslims. the most important thing you can do is DO NOT DEFINE ISLAM BY MUSLIMS..... read Quran when things begin to get hard.... or listen to speeches (Hamza Yusuf, Siraj Wahaj, Yusuf Estes..... Khutba.org ) also, there is a lot of Islamic music out there (Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Dawhud Wharnsby Ali, Native Deen)..... whenever you feel yourself struggling allow these things to help....

Another thing a lot of converts i've met tend to do is completely throw themselves into Islam in the very beginning.... this ends up being too much pressure and too much change at one time which leads them to straying from the path of Islam.... take things slow.... focus on learning.....

sorry my answer was so lengthy but i understand your situation b/ i've been there.. if you have any other questions feel free to contact me (Sakina_syeda1203@yahoo.com)........ill keep you in my prayers.... i hope this has been a benefit to you... Allah knows best

Ramadan Mubarak
Asalamwalaikum

Congratulation! Now make it a routine in this month of Ramadan
Get busy in something e.g Start praying, reciting Quran and forget that you are feeling hungry or thirsty. The more you will think about it,the more you would get it difficult. And That's your Test by Allah that how much you can do to make Allah happy from you.
Good luck!

Tell Him thank you in your prayers... never miss you obligatory prayer.

Help the poor and those who are down. Always try to serve God's creations. Allah loves those who help those in need.

May Allah bless you and accept all of your worship.

Congratulations on accepting Islam. Ramadan Mubarak!
