The primary attribute of the term “soul” is unidentified. At best, spiritualists have postulated that a soul is “immaterial”—but this description simply tells us what a “soul” is not, not what a “soul” is, and thus there is no connection established between a “soul” ’s metaphysical nature and any secondary properties that one should wish to attach to it. If a term’s primary attribute is unidentified, we cannot say what attributes can be applied to it or not applied to it, because we are unable to say what it is that it may possess any particular characteristics at all. Consequently, this concept of a "soul" is meaningless.

The concept of a soul is difficult to define because there have been so many different ideas as to what it "really" is. At its most basic, a "soul" is some sort of immaterial, supernatural essence which is believed to provide the lifeforce and genuine "self" to each person. Some believe that only people have souls, some believe that only sentient beings have souls, and some believe that all living entities have souls.

A soul, great question! Obviously the "soul" is tied up with our sense of self-awareness, but of course it ISN'T our self-awareness, it just has it. The soul also apprehends the world through our senses, though it ISN'T the senses. And the soul uses memory to make sense of its existence, without BEING that memory.

Since no one has been able to isolate a location for the soul in the human body, we must conclude that is is indeed immaterial. So what we have left is a non-corporeal entity minus self-awareness, sensation or memory. That is the pure soul.

No, it doesn't photograph well either.

The original language terms (Heb.,ne'phesh;Gk.,psy-khe)
as used in the scriptures show "soul" to be a person,an animal,or the life that a person or an animal enjoys.
Ezek.18:4 states "....the soul that is sinning-it itself will die"
So the Bible doesnt teach we have a soul, but that we are a living soul

A soul is defined to one's own self. At Genesis 2:7 reads "Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." At Psalm 119:28 reads "My soul has been sleepless from grief." Also, animals are called souls. At Genesis 1:20,21,24 reads (20) And God went on to say: "Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens." (21) And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good. (24) And God went on to say: "Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind." And it came to be so.

Soul: The mind, the will, the intellect, and the emotions. You make your decisions with the soul. Treat it with respect, but don't bow down to it.
